Zaragoza Area Guide
Zaragoza
is located in the valley of the River Ebro in north eastern Spain.
To the north and south lie the sister provinces of Huesca and Teruel
which make up the region of Aragón. It has a diverse landscape
of desert, forest and mountains which can result in some extreme
temperatures which can reach as low as -0C in the mountains during
the winter, with the summer soaring as high as 35°C+.
Zaragoza has a rich historic heritage with the Iberians, Romans, Moors, Jews and Christians all leaving their mark here, and the most impressive building being the sixteenth century Basilica de Nuestra Senora del Pilar which attracts pilgrims who worship the Virgin from all over Spain. The city has several cultures and has earned the nickname of "City of the Four Cultures" with cathedrals and palaces dating back to the Romans and the Moors It is still relatively undiscovered by European tourists, with the majority of visitors here being Spanish nationals.

Zaragoza
is the headquarters of the Aragonese government which is based in
the magnificent Aljaferia
which is an eleventh century Moorish palace. It was built by
Arab invaders to provide protection for their sultan, and is a fairytale
castle which was once home to King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella

Getting around in Zaragoza
