Vitoria Markets
The Central Santa Barbara Market is located in the centre of the city and is open daily selling a great range of perishable foodstuffs offered by more than 40 specialist retailers. Vitoria’s confectioners have enjoyed a good reputation both in Spain and America since the 18th century because of their fabulous chocolates, preserves and marmalades.
Markets in Vitoria
On
the first Saturday of each month the Medieval Quarter hosts a market
which has live entertainers and a large number of local shopkeepers
sell their products. It is known as the "almond" market
due to the shape of the medieval quarter when viewed from above,
and brings together the inhabitants of the city and the craftsmen
who have their workshops in the medieval quarter of Vitoria-Gasteiz.
The Tapas Route is very popular here as you can visit a circuit
of bars where you can have a drink and tapas for the special price
of €1.
There is a Spring Crafts Fair in May in the Plaza de la Provincia
of Vitoria-Gasteiz and during the last weekend in September there
is a medieval market.
Getting around in Vitoria
If you are planning to explore the area outside of the city centre and play some golf or go to some of the more out of the way beaches then you might consider hiring a car. There are a number of car hire firms based at Vitoria Airport who will be pleased to have a vehicle awaiting your arrival. This also cuts down on transfer costs for you and your family.
