Tropical garden with a covered enclosure where almost 100 species of butterflies from every continent can fly freely in a natural setting. There is also a larva reproduction facility where each stage of development can be seen.

Subtropical garden in the centre of La Orotava valley with a varied collection of plants and animals as well as a restaurant and cafeteria-bar. Camel rides (or ponies for the little ones) through the gardens. Free bus service from Puerto de la Cruz and Playa de Martiánez Beach (Colón Avenue).

The main attraction in Icod de Los Vinos is the world famous Millennium Dragon Tree (Drago Milenario) which is one of the Canary's most important natural symbols of its culture and history. The one here is considered the oldest on the island at an estimated 800 years. It measures 17 metres high with a base circumference of over 20 metres. The garden that surrounds the tree is full of native plants including little dragon trees, thistles and spurges.

This is the oldest garden in Tenerife which dates back over 200 years. It is art of a private mansion whose owners have decided to open this magic garden to the public so that they can see large collection of the orchids of Tenerife and the oldest and largest dragon tree in Puerto de la Cruz.

Located within the Museum of Nature and Mankind, the museum displays all the archaeological discoveries and human remains of Tenerife's prehistory.

Mainly paintings from Canarian artists can be seen in this museum, although sculptures and craftwork are also on display. It has 14 galleries exhibiting work including the Nava triptych by Peter Coeck (16th century), a St. Joseph by Ribera and a portrait of Isabella II, by Federico de Madrazo.

The museum introduces its visitors to the nature and cultural heritage of the Canary Islands. It is located in the former Civil Hospital building that is an excellent example of the neoclassical architecture in the Canary Islands.

A museum inn the Castle of Almeida displaying military objects relating to the Canary Islands with Admiral Nelson's victory with the British Fleet having a special space of its own. The Tiger which caused his fatal injury can be seen here.

Getting around in Tenerife

If you are planning to explore the area outside of the city centre and play some golf or go to some of the more out of the way beaches then you might consider hiring a car.
