Loro Parque is Tenerife's most popular wildlife centre situated on the outskirts of the northern resort of Puerto da la Cruz. It is home to the largest parrot collection in the world and the biggest dolphinarium in Europe. There are also gorillas, jaguars, huge tigers and the penguin island which is the latest addition. Loro Parque has an aquarium which houses over 20,000 marine animals including some enormous sharks which are viewed through a sub-aquatic plexiglas tunnel.

There are parrot, dolphin and sea lion shows throughout the day. At peak times they can become very crowded so arrive early to get the best pool side seats. The park has a large number of pizzeria, restaurants and shops and if you are staying in Puerto de la Cruz then a "road train" operates every 20 minutes from the Playa Martinez in the centre of the resort.

Getting around in Tenerife

If you are planning to explore the area outside of the city centre and play some golf or go to some of the more out of the way beaches then you might consider hiring a car. There are a number of car hire firms based at Tenerife Airport who will be pleased to have a vehicle awaiting your arrival. This also cuts down on transfer costs for you and your family.

We also provide information on sporting and leisure amenities in Tenerife which includes a Tenerife Area Guide on the best Tenerife Shopping Areas, Tenerife Markets, Tenerife Golf Courses, the different types of Tenerife Beaches, recommended Tenerife Restaurants, details of Tenerife Amusement Parks for family days out and Tenerife Local Attractions.
