Tenerife North Airport is less well known and used a lot less by foreign travellers than Reina Sofia in the South. Most non-Spanish tourists arrive and depart Tenerife via Tenerife South Airport, but Los Rodeos Airport in the north of Tenerife handled over 4 million passengers and 62,773 flights in 2009. The numbers this year look set to rise again as the new inter-island flight hall has transformed this airport into the Canary Islands main inter island airport hub.

In Spanish the airport is known as Aeropuerto de Tenerife Norte and in German it is Tenerife North Flughafen

Currently all flights to and from Tenerife North are Inter Island flights between Tenerife and Gran Canaria, La Palma, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura and La Gomera, or internal domestic flights from Alicante, Barcelona, Bilbao, Granada, Madrid, Malaga, Santiago de la Compostela, Seville and Valencia.

The new terminal building at Tenerife North Airport provides a bright and space from which to enjoy the view of the surrounding countryside and mountains.

Getting to and from the north airport in Tenerife means catching a taxi, one of four airport buses or arranging your own private Tenerife north airport transfers. A combination of four various buses transport you around the Island from the Airport and if your are heading to the south you need to catch Line 340 which for €3.00 takes you down to Tenerife South Airport.

Fare 1 (from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm, working days): all or part of each kilometre: €0.54 minimum fare: €3.05; price per hour waiting, €14.54 and fractional rate for every 15 minutes, €3.60.

Fare 2 (from 10:00 pm to 6:00 am and all day holidays): all or part of each kilometre: €0.61 minimum fare: €3.35; price per hour waiting, €14.54 and fractional rate for every 15 minutes, €3.60.

To give you some ideas of local fares: La Laguna, €10 (fare 1); Santa Cruz €16 (fare 1); Puerto de la Cruz, €26 (fare 1); Tenerife Sur Airport, €67 (fare 1).

The car park is right opposite the terminal building and is on three levels, two of which are covered. There are cash machines for private vehicles.

Rates: First half hour or less, free; second half hour or less, €1.06; all or part of each additional hour, €1.01; daily maximum up to 4 days, €10.60; daily maximum from the fifth day, €8.50.

As you would expect from an airport that handles over four million passengers each year there are a good number of cafes and bars from which to grab something to eat or drink and a selection of airport shops for you to browse at.

The bank is located in the arrivals lounge of the terminal building and is open from 8:30 to 14:00 Monday to Friday and Thursdays from 17:00 to 18:30 between October and May.

There is nowhere to leave luggage at Tenerife North Airport.
