API (ADVANCED PASSENGER INFORMATION) INTRODUCED FOR TRAVELLERS TO ALL SPANISH AIRPORTS FROM 13TH JUNE, 2007
Following the foiled airline bomb plot at Heathrow last year, European ministers agreed to set up a pan-European system for exchanging passenger information. Travellers to the United States have faced similar demands since early 2005.
Spain is the first EU country to start collecting API (Advance Passenger Information) from incoming travellers, but the practice is expected to be introduced in other member countries within 12 months. All passengers flying on or after 13th June 2007 will be required to provide their airline with specific information including their full name, nationality, date of birth and passport number either through the airline websites, travel agents or at check-in.
This information must be supplied to Spanish customs authorities before anyone boards an aircraft, so check-in will be the last time passengers can provide their details. During the peak periods of July and August travellers may be asked to turn up at airports half an hour earlier than normal. At some airports a third option of providing API via a self-service kiosk may be available, but this method is not guaranteed at all airports.
Airlines including Easyjet and British Airways have set up an online system so that their passengers can provide this information in advance. If you have any questions, contact your airline or travel agent for more information.

Thinking of buying a Spanish holiday home?
(Posted 5th September 2005)
As always there are many articles in the newspapers about the Spanish Holiday home market. Why buyers should buy near certain Spanish Airports etc, but there was an interesting article in the Sunday Times on 28th August 2005 which questioned the wisdom of putting your Spanish Holiday home and other things within the wrapper of your Sipps Pension.
David Budworth from The Times warned investors to be wary of the hype that surrounds A-Day (6th April 2006). From A-Day the list of allowed investments in your personal pension will expand to include everything from your own home, holiday homes and buy-to-lets to art, fine wine, classic cars, yachts and even assets such as fine diamond earrings. Basically anything that counts as an asset can be held within your Pension fund.
