Santiago Shopping

Santiago de Compostela offers many local crafts with the most popular being jet ware and silverware. The black jet stones are used for jewellery, while all kinds of silver goods are available for purchase, with the shops around the Cathedral stocking a good selection. Ceramic tiles, lace, clogs and other artisan items can be found in the craft shops in the Old Quarter.

 

 

The traditional streets and squares of Platerías, Acibechería and Caldeirería have shops and small workshops clustered together making and selling hats, candles, avant garde designs and made-to-measure tailoring establishments.

High street shops and retail chain stores can be found in the Polígono de Fontiñas shopping centres near the station and around Castiñeiriño. El Corte Inglés department store is located at Rúa do Restallal 50, in the Zona Paxonal. In the Tras de Pilar arcades you will find a number of shops and boutiques selling the work of young Galician fashion designers

If you are planning to explore the area outside of the city centre and play some golf or go to some of the more out of the way beaches then you might consider hiring a car. There are a number of car hire firms based at Santiago Airport who will be pleased to have a vehicle awaiting your arrival. This also cuts down on transfer costs for you and your family.
