Reus Airport is around 3kms from the Spanish City of Reus, 13 kms from Tarragona and around 80kms south of Barcelona. I last visited Reus airport just over a year ago and there is quite a lot of modernization going on there. A new check in area has just opened on the side of the old departure terminal and the swanky but smallish and modern arrivals terminal is open. There is also a small kiddies playground area with a slide etc just outside the departures terminal, by the model of an aeroplane.

It is an easy drive up to Barcelona but takes at least an hour and if you are staying right in the centre of Barcelona for just a few days I would be tempted to get the bus.

The main source of passenger traffic at Reus Airport either comes from the UK or from internal Spanish flights. Over the summer months there are also a huge number of charter flights arriving at Reus Airport from the UK. The busiest months for the airport are May to October.

The Reus Airport arrivals terminal contains a luggage reclaim area with three conveyor belts and the outer arrivals hall area where you will find desks for the various tour operators, the car hire companies and a cafe. You can find out about live flight arrivals at Reus Airport here

Reus Airport has two different terminal buildings one is for Reus arrivals and one is for departures. In the Reus Airport departures terminal there is a cafe restaurant a "duty free" shop and a multishop that sell everything from newspapers to perfumes and cigarettes. As with all the provincial airports in Spain the cafes serve very basic drinks and snacks. The coffees are great but the sandwiches are awful! If you are not hiring a car and don't fancy taking public transport It is possible to organize private Reus Airport Transfers in advance. This way you will be meet in the main arrivals hall by your own driver.

There are three different Reus Airport buses. The first bus runs regularly between Reus Airport and La Pineda, Salou and Cambrils. The second bus runs into Reus City centre and the third bus runs from Reus Airport to Barcelona.

There are not trains at Reus Airport but there are local Reus Trains from the Centre. We have also written about how to use the trains in Spain

 

Reus Airport taxis cost in the region of €15 to Reus City and €20 into Tarragona City. They are generally waiting outside of the main arrivals terminal but if you would like piece of mind then it may be worth booking a private airport transfer instead.

Works are being carried out to expand the car park and a provisional car park has been set up next to the original car park.

Parking is currently free at Reus Airport. The car park is open between 08.00-23.00 and there are 444 spaces available.

Reus Airport General Information

Reus is a small airport that is getting busier each year. Passenger numbers in 2007 were 1,305,894 compared with just 846.731 in 2003. Up until 1998 the airport only handled around 500,000 people each year. Reus is an airport that has definitely benefited from the introduction of low cost flights from Ryanair and passenger numbers have more than doubled since 1995. In 2007 over 25,500 flights were handled by Reus Airport.

If you are going to Barcelona for the weekend then you will save quite a lot of time and hassle by flying direct into Barcelona Airport. However Ryanair are trying to keep the prices low enough to make flying to Reus a sensible alternative.
