Arriving and Departing from Malaga Airport

Tuesday, April 13th, 2010

Despite the Spanish Airport’s instructions that all UK flights are arriving and departing from the original Terminal 2 at Malaga Airport this is not proving to be the case.

At the moment if you have baggage you should check in as normal at Terminal 2 upstairs in the departures hall, but you are then directed along a long corridor which connects it to the new terminal 3 where you will clear passport control and security.  So if you are travelling with only hand luggage and have your boarding pass go straight to terminal 3 and get to the departures lounge from there.  It will save you lot of walking.

When you land at Malaga Airport again you are directed into Terminal 3.  Make sure you follow the signs and go down the escalators to the baggage reclaim (even if you only have hand luggage) as this is also the way out of the terminal and where the Malaga Airport bus stops and taxi rank are.  If you carry on without going down the escalators you will meet passengers who are coming through security and there is no way out.

New Aldeasa Duty Free Store at Malaga Airport

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

Aldeasa are opening a new duty free store in the new terminal 3 at Malaga Airport.  It is due to open at the end of April and will be located close to the baggage carousels. Spanish law forbids the sale of tobacco at arrivals stores so it will concentrate mostly on wines and spirits but will also sell perfumes, food and toys. The arrivals store will also conduct cross-selling promotions, enabling passengers that buy at arrivals to receive a discount for any purchase made at the store on departure.

Arrivals shopping is already possible at the new terminal as all passengers arriving from Schengen countries pass through the same area as departures, where they can make purchases. But the new   Aldeasa arrivals shop will be downstairs at level zero, close to the baggage carousel.

Rail link from Malaga Airport to city Centre

Friday, March 26th, 2010

Malaga Centro-Alameda which is the city centre railway station has reopened to the public in time for Semana Santa. The station first opened in 1975 and has just undergone a €4M refurbishment. The C-1 line will transport more than nine million passengers a year, making it one of the most profitable lines in Spain.

During the closure period passengers wanting to get into the city centre of Malaga had a 15 minute walk from Malaga Maria Zambrano to the Alameda Station which is located by the river near the El Corte Ingles building and the central post office.

There is also a new timetable for the C-1 line between Malaga Airport and Fuengirola which came into effect on March 23rd. From Alameda the service will be the same as it was before the closures, with a train every 30 minutes, on the hour and at half past the hour with the first train leaving at 05:30 and the last at 22:30. The first departure from Fuengirola will be at 06:30 and the last at 23:30 p.m. The total time taken to travel the entire route will be 50 minutes.

Shopping at Malaga Airport

Friday, March 12th, 2010

Entrance to new terminal 3 at Malaga Airport

The new terminal 3 at Malaga Airport opens on Monday with all the UK flights still arriving and departing at Terminal 2.

We have noticed that the opening of the new terminal has thrown the shopping area in Malaga Airport Terminal 2 into disarray with fewer shops now open.   Hopefully this is only temporary and they are involved in opening another outlet in terminal 3 where over 50 shops are due to open next week.

When the dust settles we are going to spend a day checking out the new Malaga Airport so will keep you posted.  The large duty free outlet Aldeasa is still open, but for the time being don’t bank on having too much choice for last minute shopping in Terminal 2.
