Shopping in Murcia
The
Gran Vía has some interesting shops on both sides, but if
you turn left at the former Galerías store and into the back
of the Romea Theatre which was built in 1826 and is still in use
you will eventually pass through the arches to the newly refurbished
Santo Domingo square which stretches towards the cathedral. This
area is called the Traperia and Plateria and is where the original
merchants and guilds were located. Many of the original workshops
can still be seen and there are a number of cloth merchants and
silversmiths doing business here.
The most typical things to buy to eat in Murcia are meat pies (including one made from deer) from Bonache which is situated in the pretty Plaza de las Flores (Flowers square). The Verónicas Market is good for famous Murcian market-garden products, fish and seafood.
