Murcia is famous all over Spain for its wonderful tapas dishes. Many of the tapas recipes originate from this region, and many bars and restaurants in Murcia offer an incredible selection of traditional Murcian tapas and local dishes, with coastal restaurants taking advantage of the Mar Menor and Mar Mayor serving excellent fish and seafood cuisine

Murcia's most famous tapas restaurant which is always very full, but service is generally quick. They are delicious and rare elsewhere in Spain. We recommend the menú de degustación which gives you a taste of the restaurant's most popular tapas dishes, but for dessert make sure you try Paparajotes, which a delicacy made with the leaves of lemon trees.

Just a ten minute drive from Murcia, this restaurant is well worth a visit. It is in a 17th century building which was originally built as a wine bodega and then used as a silk factory. It is a tastefully decorated, elegant restaurant specialising in modern cuisine using fresh local ingredients.

Hispano

A great favourite among the locals, the Hispano serves traditional dishes in a comfortable, rustic, atmosphere. The local cuisine includes stews, meats, tapas (of course) all prepared with local produce from Murcia's market gardens. The home made desserts are fabulous. The Hispano comes highly recommended with friendly professional service and low prices.

Divided into small dining areas on two floors, the Acuario serves innovative and traditional dishes using the freshest local produce chosen personally each day by the chef. The service is quick and friendly and they have an excellent wine list.

Restaurante El Sordo

This El Sordo is in the Valley of Ricote in a small village surrounded by lemon groves. It is just a 15 minute drive from Murcia, and although it is a very large restaurant you will need to book in advance because it is extremely popular with locals. You are also advised to fast before your meal as the portions are very generous! You can expect a mixture of delicious traditional and creative cuisine, with house wine that is made locally.

The Monteagudo is well worth the 6km drive from Murcia (motorway all the way). Traditional dishes given a modern touch and made with first class local produce. Both meat and fish dishes are recommended, along with the delicious fresh grilled vegetables. And make sure you try the warm chocolate soufflé. This restaurant has a very good wine list with some interesting local wines.
