Local Attractions in Murcia
Murcia
has some really fabulous places to visit. The city is divided by
the Segura River and is famous for its baroque cathedral, Almudi
Palace and Castle
of Monteagudo which is an 11th century fortress.
The Casino in Traperia was built in 1847 and has a stunning Moorish patio, baroque ballroom and loads of fantastically decorated halls and rooms with ornate plaster work. It is more like a luxury country hotel than a casino and well worth a visit.
The 14th century baroque Cathedral de Santa Maria is the showpiece of the town with the detailed face of the Puerta del Perdón gate ; the Renaissance “Junterones” chapel and the cathedral tower which is 96 metres tall and includes 25 bells.
There
is some fantastic artistic heritage which can be seen in a number
of exhibition halls, museums and art galleries. The Salzillo
Museum has some fascinating sculpture by the man himself, or
you can visit the Archaeological Museum, Museo
de Bellas Artes or the Bullfighting
Museum (you need a strong stomach for some of the exhibits).
The Museo
Ramon Gaya is dedicated to the artist who was a native of Murcia
influenced by famous artists such as Vazquez and Rembrandt.
