Menorca Beaches
Menorca has fewer beaches than Mallorca and
Ibiza, but they tend to be quieter and less crowded with more secluded
beaches and coves. Some of the best beaches
like Cala'n Porter is in Alaior at the eastern end of the island. West of Santa Galdana
you will find the local beach resorts of Cala'n Bosch in Cuitadella and Son Xoriguer where you will find a watersports centre offering catamaran sailing, windsurfing, water skiing, parasailing, sailing and motorboat hire
Beaches in Menorca
As a quick guide we have listed below a small selection beaches in Menorca:
Son Bou is about 30 minutes from Mahon Airport and at over 2km long it is the longest beach on the island with fine golden sand and calm waters with a beach that shelves gently into the sea making it safe for children. There are several beach bars and a good variety of water sports on offer. If you feel like exploring at eastern end of the beach you will find the ruins of an early Christian church, but be warned that the further you walk along the beach the less people have on, as Son Bou is also a popular place with naturists.
Punta Prima is located in the south east corner of Menorca just 15 minutes away from the airport. There is a good selection of bar and restaurants overlooking the white sandy beach but swimming can sometimes be dangerous here with strong currents so look out for a warning flag above the red cross building as this tells you when it is safe to swim.
Binibeca is on the south east end of the Island about 15 minutes from the airport. It has a cluster of private villas built around the fishing cove of Cala Torret and Binibèquer Vell which is a famous fisherman's village. the beach at Binibeca is sheltered by a rocky headland and is great for swimming or walking along the coast to a host of small coves which are ideal for snorkeling.
Getting around in Menorca
If you are planning to explore the area outside of the city centre and play some golf or go to some of the more out of the way beaches then you might consider hiring a car . There are a number of car hire firms based at Mahon Airport who will be pleased to have a vehicle awaiting your arrival. This also cuts down on transfer costs for you and your family.
