Trains at Malaga Airport

trains at Malaga AirportThe train service from Malaga Airport goes as far Malaga City in one direction and Fuengirola in the other.

The plan is that it will eventually go all the way to Puerto Banus and Estepona, but this is work in progress and will not happen for a few years.

The train station is on the opposite side of the road from the airport terminal and to get there you need to be on the first floor level and turn right out of the departures hall.

Walk past the new terminal 1 extension where you will see the car hire companies are located and coaches are parked outside, and you come to a sign sending you over zebra crossing into the car park area. Walk to the left in the car park and follow the signs until you get to an elevated metal bridge crossing the motorway below which eventually leads to the station platform.

This is about a 6 minute walk which is all on one level until you exit from the bridge either down some steps or a graduated slope, but when you get to the station platform you need to climb a dozen or so fairly steep concrete steps. Any passengers with mobility problems will have a problem and although there is an assistance point there, with all the building works going on it is not yet connected.

If you are in Terminal 3 at Malaga Airport there are travelators operating from the transport hub on the departures level which will get you into the car parks, but you will have to go over the bridge and up the steps.

Once the work is finished Malaga Airport will have a station with platforms within the main terminal building and you will be able to get a trains to places like Seville and Madrid direct from the there.

If you go to the Maria Zambrano Station in Malaga it is just 4 stops from Malaga Airport Station, then you could change and go all the way to Madrid or even Barcelona by train.

If you are heading for Marbella you need to catch a bus, book a transfer or take a taxi.

Catching a train at Malaga Airport

The station is not manned and you purchase your train tickets from the self-service machines before you climb the steps to the platform.

There is only one platform in operation at the moment which does not have any train information so if the train approaches from your right it is going into Malaga and from your left it is heading for Fuengirola. As a double check look at the front of the train as it approaches as this indicates where it is headed.
