One of Madrid's many Asturian taverns where it is essential to try
the natural sidra (cider). Typical Asturian dishes are fabes con
almejas (white beans and clams in a tasty sauce) and chorizo a la
sidra (spicy sausages cooked in cider)

setting on the second floor of an old mansion. Specialities include
solomillo de cerdo rellenos (pork entrecote in a tasty sauce), sea
bream with herbs and stewed rabbit. May close for one week in August.

This restaurant has a marked German influence with sauerkraut featuring
strongly on the menu. The restaurant is in a luxurious mansion near
the Retiro Park and specialises in game dishes including venison,
wild boar or roast wild duck.

A macrobiotic restaurant which comes a breath of fresh air for vegetarians
visiting Madrid. Creative tofu and seitan dishes as well as a variety
of salads and soups. You can purchase macrobiotic products in their
small store.

According to the Guinness Book of Records, this is the oldest restaurant in the world dating back to 1725. Goya supposedly worked here before becoming a painter, and Ernest Hemingway was a frequent visitor and pronounced it one of his favourite restaurants. It is an excellent restaurant spread over four floors of tiled, wood-beamed dining rooms with caste-iron centuries old ovens. You may find yourself serenaded here by "tuna" (a musical group formed by students, playing traditional songs in traditional dress, complete with knickerbockers).

This restaurant specialises in dishes from Navarra served to opera. It is a real fun night out with serving staff singing opera as they deliver the meals. The restaurant is in an impressive building which is the headquarters of the Opera Foundation of Navarra and the Opera Society of Madrid.

El Bodegon serves innovative cuisine, outstanding desserts and has an excellent wine list. It is best visited in the evening when the atmosphere is more relaxed and you can choose from a special menu.
Getting around in Madrid
If you are planning to explore the area outside of the city centre and play some golf or go to some of the more out of the way beaches then you might consider hiring a car. There are a number of car hire firms based at Madrid Airport who will be pleased to have a vehicle awaiting your arrival. This also cuts down on transfer costs for you and your family.
