Madrid Airport InformationMadrid Barajas Airport is the main airport for Madrid, there are 2 others, Madrid Torrejon & Madrid Cuatro Vientos but they are of little importance to visitors of Spain. Madrid Barajas is located just 13km (8 miles) northeast of Madrid.

Madrid Airport is a major International Airport which handled 50,846,104 passengers and 469,740 flights in 2008.

Madrid-Barajas Airport has 65 Heart Rescue Areas  to assist passengers with heart problems. There are 36 defibillators in T1, T2 and T3 - and 29 in T4 and T4S) which examine the patient's heartbeat and determines the need to deliver an electric shock.

The airport has installed smoking areas in the boarding, check-in and arrivals areas. They are equipped with modern technology which absorbs the smoke and purifies the air. Some restaurants and cafés in T1, T2, T3, T4 and T4S have also set up smoking areas.

All baggage left at the left-luggage office passes through an x-ray checkpoint to verify that they do not contain dangerous items or objects. Prices vary depending on size and time, but as a rough guide the costs for part or whole of one day are: , €3.83 (large and small locker); from two to fifteen days: large locker, €4.92; small locker €3.83. Storage from day fifteen onwards: €1,97. Transfer to the warehouse: €39.34 Special baggage €4.78.
