In cities like Madrid resident only areas is allowed for 90 minutes from 8.00 to 21.00. Parking discs can be obtained from hotels, travel agents parking is clearly identified by a blue line on the street. But this is not always so clearly marked so always check for signs. Do not leave anything of value in your parked car and put anything you do have to leave out of sight. Parking garages are a safer alternative than the street but it is sometimes worth checking the prices before you enter. On one-way streets parking is allowed along the side with even addresses on even dates and on along the side with odd addresses on odd dates: in both cases you must park in the direction of traffic flow. Do not park within five metres of intersections or entrances to public buildings.
Some large towns and cities have Zona ORAS in their centre and parking here is allowed in conjunction with display of a ticket which can be bought at tobacconists and are valid for 30, 60, or 90 minutes. Illegally parked vehicles may be towed away.
