Alicante is a very attractive city with beaches of a high standard and a number of promenades, gardens and plazas which provide beautiful and quiet places to rest. The shopping and cuisine in the many bars and restaurants are excellent.

If you hire a car at Alicante Airport you can drive to nearby Benidorm with its miles of golden beaches or head south to the port of  Santa Pola. Above Benidorm to the north you will find the resort of Cale and Altea. 

Or you can drive inland for 24km to Busot to visit the Cuevas del Canelobre. These caves have the highest vaults in the whole of Spain with interiors reminiscent of a large cathedral with coloured lights illuminating the rock and mineral formations. Busot also offers a number of hiking routes with some spectacular views. More caves, including the Cova del Rull,  can be found at Vall d'Ebo which is  30km from Denia.

Alicante is one of the bigger airports in Spain and provides excellent access to all the main resorts along the Costa Blanca coastline and inland Spain. The motorway network here is very good with clear signposting which makes driving here a pleasant experience.
