La Palma Airport is just 8kms from Santa Cruz de la Puerto on the
Island of La Palma in the Canary Islands. In Spanish the airport
is known as Aeropuerto

The airport itself is quite a bit smaller than those of its neighbouring islands of Gran Canaria, Tenerife and Fuerteventura but 1,151,357 passengers and 20,128 flights were handled there in 2008,
There are new building projects currently under way at La Palma Airport including a new terminal building, a control tower and an extended apron to extend its capacity to cope with increased passenger traffic.
Most of the passenger traffic at this airport is via domestic flights from Tenerife North, Madrid, Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura but there are also quite a lot of charter flights from Germany, Holland and Belgium and and the charter airline Thomsonfly operates flights from Gatwick and Manchester in the UK.

Flights to La Palma Airport
As
mentioned above most of the flights are from within Spain or the
Canary Islands and the route most people take to get here is to
fly to Tenerife North Airport and then change on to an inter island
flight.
The best bet for domestic flights to La Palma is Binter Airways a Canary island based company, or Iberia who are Spain's national airline. La Palma Airport Buses
The
Island is quite small and doesn't have a railway but there
is a bus service which will take you into the centre of Santa Cruz
or you can catch a taxi.
The number 8 bus leaves from outside the main terminal every 30 minutes between 07.15 and 00.15 each day. Departures from La Palma are from 06:45 to 00:45. La Palma Airport Arrivals
The
airport is spread over two floors and has a bar and a couple of
cafes serving hot food and drinks throughout the day and evening,
one of the cafes has a kiddies play area.
The arrivals area is equipped with three baggage carousels, one of which is used for special luggage. The car hire offices, information services from the Island Tourist Board and airlines are also located in this area. The bus stop and taxi rank are located on the outside of the building.
La Palma Airport Departures
Passengers
who come to the airport to catch flights can make use of the free
parking facilities. There check-in desks are located in the

It is a small airport and there are just three boarding gates. You can comfortably wait for your flight in the boarding lounges which are found on the ground and first floors. Access to the first floor can be gained via the escalators, lifts or stairs. This area is decorated with pictures and sculptures by local artists.
If
you want to do some island hopping or travel to mainland Spain by
boat then you can catch a ferry from Puerto Santa Cruz de la Palma
to Cadiz, Algeciras, Las Palmas, Puerto del Rosario and Tenerife.

La Palma Airport Parking
La Palma Airport will haa a new public car par situated at the bottom of the extension of the aircraft apron.The building has two covered floors with a capacity for 1276 vehicles. At the moment just one of the floors is in operation offer 685 spaces (10 of which are reserved for People with Reduced Mobility)
The parking rates are the following: first half hour or part thereof - free: next 30 minutes €0.32 every hour thereafter €0.69 per hour: daily maximum up to 4 days, €7.20; daily maximum from day five, €5.75.
La Palma Airport Shopping
There
are a handful of shops at La Palma. Air Zone is a good sized multishop
where you can buy "duty free" cigarettes and alcohol,
there is also a pharmacy, Tiendas de Artesania selling local crafts and gifts and a kiosk where you can purchase newspapers, books and magazines-
Unlike mainland Spain the Canary Islands have different restrictions on the amount of Duty Free goods that you are allowed to take to and from the Islands.
