Cigarettes, local cigars and alcohol can be purchased at very reasonable prices in nearly every supermarket in the main resorts and perfume can be bought in the many perfumeries.

The best shopping districts on the island are Calle Real in Arrecife, the Biosfera Shopping Centre in Puerto del Carmen and the Deiland Centre in Playa Honda.

Shopping in Lanzarote

Handmade Spanish earringsIn Arrecife the main shopping street is Calle Leon Y Castillo (known locally as Calle Real) is full of bazaars and shops selling clothes, electrical goods, watches, ceramics, tableware, wines from La Geria, and various foodstuffs. The Biosfera Centre in Puerto del Carmen has many clothes shops including Zara and the Centro Comercial Deiland Plaza in Playa Honda is a three storey complex with parking for over 800 cars with a large selection of shops, cafes a cinema and a bowling alley.

If you are looking for shopping arcades, in the centre of Arrecife is the Spinola shopping arcade, and if you go to the north of towards Tahiche you will find El Hiper and El Shopping Centre. To the south in Playa Honda is El Megacentro . The Costa Teguise shopping arcade, Las Cucharas, sells towels, bathing costumes, sunglasses and backpacks. Every afternoon in the plaza of the area known as Pueblo Marinero there is a mini market selling all types of objects including handmade jewellery.

designer sunglassesIf you are looking for local craft work head for Mozaga to Cesar Manrique's El Monumento de Campesino where there is also a well-known restaurant and a crafts shop selling tableware, lace and embroidery.

All over the island you will find electrical goods shops selling a wide range of goods. Always ask for a discount when buying anything because the displayed price is always negotiable, especially on more expensive items such as engagement rings!.

Getting around in Lanzarote

If you are planning to explore the area outside of the city centre and play some golf or go to some of the more out of the way beaches then you might consider hiring a car . There are a number of car hire firms based at Lanzarote Airport who will be pleased to have a vehicle awaiting your arrival. This also cuts down on transfer costs for you and your family.
