Travelling to Burgos from Bilbao, Valladolid or Santander Airport

Hi Linda

Many thanks for your speedy reply and help – very useful information.

Marianne

Hi Marianne,

You can catch a train to Burgos from both Bilbao and Valladolid Airports. If you click on this link it will take you through to the Renfe website where you can check timetables.

As far as buses are concerned you can find out details of buses from Santander Airport to Burgos here: buses from Bilbao here and finally buses from Valladolid Airport

Linda

Hi – I am planning to continue on the Camino to Santiago from Burgos. I am flying from London and can arrive at three airports – Bilbao, Valladolid or Santander (in order of preference). I would like to know the times of buses or trains that will take me from one of these airports to Burgos. Even some website addresses would help.

Kind regards

Marianne

Private transfer from Santander Airport

Hi Belinda,

There is very limited transport from Santander Airport. The only company I know of who might be able to organise a private transfer/minibus for you is Holiday Taxis but when you click on this link and get through to their website you will have to go through to the "contact us" section as it will not enable you to get an online quote to Noja.

The only other option as you say is to organise taxis and you can telephone Radiotaxi on 0034 9942 333 333. You are correct that Spanish taxis normally only take a maximum of 4 people, but they might be able to offer a larger vehicle.

Linda

hi am travelling to santander on 17/09 and there will b 6 ads and 8 childs can u tell me if there r minibus taxis that wud take all of us to noja or even 2 8 seater taxis at the airport and do u know how much i think a normal taxi only takes 4 and is 50 1 way which wud b pricey even a phone num wud b good

Flights into Santander and Bilbao

Linda: Thank you for you assistance. Charles Holder

Hi Charles,

If you visit our guide to flights to Santander Airport and guide to flights to Bilbao Airport you will see all the locations listed which you can fly from in the UK along with the airlines which operate the routes. You can also find details of flights to Alicante here which is a much larger airport and where you will see there is a greater choice.

Linda

Hello Gary: We are travelling SW UK to northern Spain next May, 2009. We are looking for any flight from Plymouth, UK or Exeter, UK to Santander or Bilbao Spain. Are you aware of any? Our next choice for an arrival airport in Spain is Alicante. Thanks, Charles Holder, Calgary, Canada.

Bus from Santander to San Sebastian

Hi Molly,

The bus stop is just outside the arrivals terminal at Santander so you should be able to get there pretty quickly once you have disembarked and if your flight is on time will make the 7.00 pm bus. But if you are at all delayed you are cutting it very fine, and at this time of year it is virtually impossible to give any guidance on flight stats and the likelihood of a late arrival I'm afraid.

Linda

Dear Gary,

I am flying into Santander at 6pm on a Tuesday and will be taking a bus to San Sebastian. According to the bus schedule the last two buses are at 7:00pm and 8:30pm. Will that give me enough time to get luggage and make it to the bus stop? How big is Santader airport? Would I be cutting it too close if I booked the 7pm bus? ANy advice would bre greatly appreciated. Thanks! Molly

Getting from Santander to Isla

Thanks!

Hi again Tara,

Found it! Isla is a 44km journey from the airport so a taxi will cost you about €60 for the 40 minute journey.

There are no train links to Isla but there is one bus a day from the centre of Santander which leaves at 11:30 and arrives in Isla 12:45. You can find out more details at http://www.santandereabus.com/eng/default_e.asp

To find out how to get from the airport to the centre of Santander visit http://www.spanish-airport-guide.com/santander-airport.html

Linda

Linda,
Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.
The full address is: Astuy Hotel and Appartments - Juan Hormaechea, 1-Isla 39195, Cantabria, Espana.
Tara

Hi Tara,

There are literally hundreds of "Islas" in Spain. Can you give me a bit more information about the one you are trying to get to.

Linda

Hi Gary,

I am frantically trying to find out how I can get from Santander airport to Isla. I think that a taxi will be too expensive and would like to find out if there are any trains or buses that go there or near there. I am due to travel on the 8th - 15th April.

I hope you can help,

thanks, Tara Lines

Getting from Santander To Astorga

Hi Elsie,

The driving route from Santander Airport to Astorga is 312km! You can get a bus from Santander Airport to Oviedo and then another one to Astorga - but it will take a while! Details at http://www2.alsa.es/portal/index.asp?lang=en

Your best bet is to take a train from the centre of Santander to Leon - details at http://horarios.renfe.es/hir/index.jsp?page=hjhir130.jsp&O=14223&D=15100&AF

Getting from Santander to Oviedo

Hi Katariina,

The bus leaves from outside the terminal building - details at http://www.spanish-airport-guide.com/santander-airport.html Long distance buses do not let passengers stand (it is illegal) so if it is full you will not be able to get on and there are only two buses a day. Incidentally the journey time is 3 hours and 25 minutes. You can reserve tickets from Santander to Oviedo at http://www.alsa.es/VentaParticulares/contenidoHorarios.jsp?aeropuertos=S

Or you can get the train from Santander which means you have to get into the city centre and the journey time takes longer - details at http://horarios.renfe.es/hir/index.jsp?page=hjhir130.jsp&O=14223&D=15211&AF=2008&MF=MM&DF=DD&SF=NaN&ID=i

Linda

HI!

Where do the buses leave from at Santander airport? If the bus shows to be full when reserving tickets, do you think we can still board it?
It seems much easier to travel by bus to Oviedo than train, only 2 hours.

Terkuin,

Katariina

Hi Katarina,

There is no direct train link from Santander to Oviedo, but you can get a bus from the airport to Oviedo - details at https://www.alsa.es/VentaParticulares/AGVenta

If you do want to take the train then you need to change at Palencia. Details of trains from Santander to Palencia at http://horarios.renfe.es/hir/index.jsp?page=hjhir110.jsp&O=?&D=?&AF
=2008&MF=MM&DF=DD&SF=NaN&ID=i and Palencia to Oviedo at http://horarios.renfe.es/hir/index.jsp?page=hjhir130.jsp&O=14100&D=

Linda

Hi!

We are planning a trip to Oviedo.

We fly to Santander on March 19th and back from Santander on March 24th.

Could you help us, how do we get from the Santander airport to the nearest train station? Do you know approximately how much costs a train ticket from Santander to Oviedo? I guess a regional train is cheaper than an express train? The train trip Santander - Oviedo last a couple of hours?

Thanks so much!

Hi Eileen.

Hostels in Santander

Hi Katie,

I'm afraid the review you are referring to was from someone who had written into our message board and visited Santander and I'm afraid we do not have any personal experiences of hostels in that area.

The information we sent to the reviewer included a link to a reputable company who provides hotel and hostel accommodation at all prices in that area so if you follow this link hopefully you will be able to find somewhere to stay http://www.alpharooms.com/guide/spain/santander/default.aspx

Linda

Hi!

I've just read you review about your trip to Santander and I was wondering what hostel you stayed in. I'm going interrailing around Spain in June/July and I need all the advice I can get!

I'd really appreciate your help,

Online check in facilities at Sanrander

Hi Lynda,

Afraid not, your best bet is to find an internet cafe where you are staying to check in for your return flight.

Linda

Thanks for getting back to me.

Yes, I am flying with Ryanair and intend checking in online before leaving Stanstead for Santander, but I will not have internet access once in Spain, so was asking if there is access at Santander airport to check in online once there.

Lynda

Hi Lynda,

It depends on which airline you are travelling with. If it is Ryanair they do have their own online check in and you can find out if you meet the criteria at https://www.bookryanair.com/checkngo/cgi-bin/webcheckin.cgi?pos=SBFORM

Linda

Hello Gary,

Could you let me know if there is on line checking in facilities at Santander airport please?

Many thanks,

Ryanair winter flights into Santander

They have not published all their winter timetables yet. And as Asturias is one of the smaller airports it is unlikely that details be available for another month or so. Do you belong to their mailing list so that they can notify you when they are releasing the winter seats?

Hi Gary

We have a house in Asturias & travel regularly with Ryanair from Liverpool
to Santander.
Ryanair are not showing any flights after the end of October.
Are they cancelling the service?
I can't find any contact method on the Ryanair website.

Santander Airport Review & Help

Gary,

Just a line or two to say "thank you" ,never having been to Santander before, your info was invaluable.

We travelled in April for a short break, on landing, there were only few private airplanes and disembarking was quick and easy, "customs" seemed to be two local police, and once checked through, we walked to the front doors of the airport, where a link bus pulled up and we got on , together with another English couple. the bus then pulled off to the central Station in the city centre, about 15 minutes, and only costing 1.60 euros.

We were there for 3 nights/4 days and didn't hear any English spoken at all, so very good for practising your Spanish! Sandtander is very clean, with fantastic beaches, good nightlife, good shops ( NO tat ) and excelent restaurants, highly recommended for somewhere "different", and with Ryanair fares so cheap ( ours were £34 inc priorty boarding) our hostel was clean and comfortable ( £50 for 3 nights! for both of us!!!!) it's no wonder we chose there nstead of a short break to Edinburgh, which would have cost at least 4 times as much.

Hmmmm.......

All the best, Graeme and Alison.

Hiring a car out of office hours at Santander

Gary

My wife and I are arriving at santander airport 27/04/07, on ryanair flight 9154, due in at 21.25, I am trying to hire a car ,and not having much luck, as most operators seem to close at 22.00hr, and I can not guarantee to be clear of baggage handling by then. Can you advise me of any operators who might be open until say 22.30

regards Barrie Thomas

My Reply...

Hi Barrie

That a tricky one, I am sure this will change as the car hire companies realize how much they could beloosing out for not catering for the Ryanair flight!

In the meantime I would call our recommended brokers, Car Trawler, I am sure they will be able to help, here are their numbers...

The phone numbers to our reservations office are:
England 0141 005 0007
Ireland 01 499 9600
USA 201 581 9019
