Hi Julie,

If you click on this link it gives you details of car parking at Granada Airport. If you are travelling this month I would book beforehand for the off site parking.

Linda

Gary

Am I able to book off site parking at Granada airport? Or do I have to just turn up.

Car hire opening hours at Granada Airport

Hi Siva,

The Europcar car hire desk opens at 08:00 on a Sunday at Granada Airport. There will be some paperwork to complete which should only take a few minutes, but with your flight timing you really need to drop the car off earlier and you should contact Europcar direct to arrange this.

Linda

Gary

We have hired a rental car from Europcar in Madrid and will be dropping it off at the Granada Airport on Sunday 18 May 2008 @ 8:00 am if not earlier. We have a Clickair flight to Barcelona which will be boarding at 8:15 am. Will the Europcar reception desk at the airport open on Sunday? If yes, will it be open at the time we plan to drop off the car? If not, where do we leave the car and is there any paper work we need to complete before we leave. Please advise. Many thanks.

Getting from Granada to Malaga

Hi Kirra,

You can get a bus from the bus station in the centre of Granada to Malaga bus station. They are safe and run at regular intervals - details at http://www.alsa.es/VentaParticulares/contenidoHorarios.jsp

To find out how to get from the airport to the bus station in Granada visit http://www.spanish-airport-guide.com/granada-airport.html

Once you are in Malaga you can either get another bus or train to the airport or a taxi to your hotel - http://www.spanish-airport-guide.com/malaga-airport.html

Don't feel nervous about the journey because the Spanish are used to dealing with travellers of all nationalities and you will find them very helpful if you get stuck.

Linda

Hi Gary,

I am travelling from Paris to Granada arriving at 2.25pm but need to get
to either the airport in Malaga to meet my friends or my hotel in
malaga. Are the buses from the airport safe, easy to use and frequent?
Do they depart from the airport? Do people speak english if I need help
finding where I am going?

As you can see I'm a bit worried about this connection so any help you
can give me would be great!
Thank you so much

We're hoping to travel to Granada in May, what airlines use the airport from Nottingham East Midlands Airport or Birmingham International Airport?

Travel on Christmas Day

Hi Sue,

The Spanish taxis will be operating (albeit charging a higher premium) on these days. Or you can get a quote for private transfers to Granada at http://www.spanish-airport-guide.com/granada-airport-transfers.html or Barcelona at http://www.spanish-airport-guide.com/barcelona-airport-transfers.html

Linda

I'm looking at booking a flight to leave Granada and arriving in
Barcelona on Christmas Day. Our flight leaves Barcelona on New Years
Day. Do you have recommendations for assisting with airport transfers
from Granada to the airport and to and from the Barcelona airport
given that these are both public holidays.

Thanks,

Getting to Granada from the Airport

The airport is only 17 kilometres from Granada. Granada Airport Taxis are pretty cheap, the trip into the city centre costs about €17 and €25 to the Alhambra . You will be able to find a taxi just outside the main arrivals hall at Granada Airport.

There are no hostels near the airport I'm afraid.

Linda

we will arrive at Granada Federico Garcia Lorca Airport at 22:00 on Tuesday. It is so late that there is no buses.we wonder urgently whether there would be taxi or other transfers to our hotel nearby the La Alhambra, of course, the cheaper, the better.

another question is that we want to know whether there are hostels near the airport, and the round price of one night stay in a hostel there.

thanks a lot.

Cancelled Monarch flights to Granada

Hi Sandra,

I'm afraid the rumour is true and it's causing a lot of consternation. You can read the latest information we have about it at http://www.theolivepress.es/2007/10/01/monarch-says-adios-to-granada/

Linda

Hi Gary,

Do you have any info on the rumour that Monarch are to stop flying into Granada from London/Gatwick in November 2007? Is this for good and is any other Airline going to start this route. Many thanks for your help with this as Gatwick is the nearest Airport for our friends and Family to fly from when they come to visit us and we are a little concerned.

Kind regards

Transfer times at Granada Airport

Hi Holly,

Even if you land on time, by the time you've cleared customs and collected your luggage I'm afraid you won't make the Motril bus from the centre of Granada. The journey from the airport to the centre of Granada is only 17km, but even if you jump in a taxi it will take you 20 minutes.

There is no railway link to Motril, so your other option is to get a taxi from the airport to Motril. It's am 85km journey which takes about an hour and will cost around €100, which will probably be cheaper than getting a hotel for the night.

Linda

Hello Gary

A should first tell you that this is my first time travelling abroad, so don't really know how airports work with regards to how long it takes to get your luggage and things like that!
I am arriving into Granada airport on Sat 10th Nov at 19:45. We need to catch a bus to motril at 20:30 from Granada bus station,if i've managed to work out the timetable properly that is!! It says there is a bus going to the bus station from the airport at 19:45, but im guessing we won't be out in time to get that one. The bus to motril is the last one on that day so will be a bit stuck if we can't catch it!
Was wondering if you know how likely it is we could make it to the bus station in time with our flight getting in at 19:45?
Also if you know the best way to do this if possible. Im not sure how long the bus from the airport would take, do you? thank you so much for your help, any information you have on this matter would be greatly apprieciated!!

Many thanks
Holly ( totally clueless about travelling!!!)

Cancelled Monarch flights to Granada

Hi Sarah,

I've had a few emails about this one and you are not alone in feeling very fed up. You can in fact get a bus from the centre of Malaga to Granada which takes just over an hour and costs about €10. If you want more details let me know and I will send you links to timetables, etc.

Linda

Have today had notification our booking to Granada cancelled, all flights cancelled as from 4th November (we were due to travel on 9th!) Am very peeved, lots of arrangments will have to be cancelled and re-arranged, looks like we'll have to fly with Iberia and go via Madrid to land in Granada, other wise it means flying ryanair by they only go from Stanstead (not very convenient from Bristol!) Very annoyed at just being offered alternative to Malaga (not even close!)and no other compensation or offer of free transfers!
Rubbish service!!!!

Booking a taxi with a child seat

Hi Katie,

To guarantee a vehicle that will transport four of you plus an infant in a car seat you need to book a transfer from Granada Airport and not a taxi (which normally carry a maximum of four adults and will not provide a car seat). To double check this the number for the taxi rank at Granada Airport is Radiotaxi: (0034)958 280 654. If you decide to book a transfer you can get a quote from Shuttledirect via this link http://www.shuttledirect.com/en/php/grx_granada_airport_transfers.php?
cod=EAL1097059704CBG

Linda

Hi

Would you be able to provide me with the name of taxi company that could provide us with a taxi for four people plus a car seat for an infant aged 14 months, to travel from Granada airport to the City Centre.

Will taxi companies in Granada be able to provide us with taxis with a car seat?

Thanks and regards

Cancelled routes to Granada

Many thanks - I shall keep my ears open!

Hi Anne,

The airlines tend to be very good at announcing new routes but keep the cancellations very quiet! I haven't heard anything about Gatwick/Granada but it looks to me as though Monarch are still negotiating with the airport for the period after March 2008 and haven't yet decided whether to continue the route. If it is going to carry on then it should be announced by December.

Sorry not to have more positive news.

Linda

Have I missed some news? Are Monarch cancelling their Gatwick / Granada route? Monarch's website is showing no flights available as from end of March next year and, since this weekend, the prices for flights between 4 November to March have all increased to £289!! As some of these were being offered last week at £29.99, it seems as though something must be happening but I cannot find any information.

Hire car collection at Granada Airport

Hi Keri,

Thank you for your kind comments about the website.

When we were last in Granada they were building a new approach road to the airport and some of the car hire firms were siting their vehicles in car parks just on the outskirts. I suspect that as it is now the high season this is what Europa has done. The desk is still in the terminal building, and the shuttle bus journey should only be a matter of minutes to collect the car. As you are a large party travelling with children I would suggest that you leave them at the airport, collect the car and then go back and pick them up with the luggage. Granada is not a big airport so the whole thing should only take minutes rather than hours.

If you want any further clarification the best thing is to ring Europa.

Hope this helps.

Linda

Hi Gary

We are travelling to Spain via Granada Airport on 4th August 2007. We have hired cars from Europa Rent A Car. The arrival city on our voucher says Granada Airport Shuttle Bus – Gra, Santa Fe, Granada. Can you tell me does this mean that we have to take a shuttle bus to our car rental site as when we looked at your website to see what car rentals were on site at the airport Europa Car was listed. Our concern is that we are quite a large party with children and lots of luggage and are arriving at the airport after quite a long days travelling.

Thank you for your help, we found your website very helpful

Improved catering facilties at Granada Airport

Hi Stuart,

Thanks for that. Will update the Spanish Airport Guide Granada Airport home page to mention this.

Regards

Linda

Gary

They have now opened up some catering airside at Granada so you can now get a coffee, sandwich or cold drink at a small coffee bar after security. They have also upgraded the land-side facilities quite a bit for 2007 with a new and much improved catering service (badly needed!) with a bigger seating/tabled area and reasonable value hot and cold food.

We use Granada regularly and it's really pleasing to see the authorities putting their money into the facility.

Cheers

Car Companies at Granada Airport

Dear Gary,
I will be arriving at Granada Airport at 21.35 on Friday May 25th. Will the car hire desks be open at that time?

My Reply...

Hi Brian
They should be, if not they have arrangements for picking up keys etc. I would try and book before you go, the main companies WITHIN the airport are listed below.
Regards
Gary

There are five main Granada airport car hire companies all of them offer a good range of cars and it may well be possible to rent the car from this airport and return it to one of the others in Andalucia.
Atesa at Granada Airport (0034 958 245 240), Avis at Granada Airport (0034 958 446 455), Europcar at Granada Airport (0034 958 245 275), Hertz at Granada Airport (0034 958 245 277) and Helle Hollis (0034 658 200 166)

Driving from Granada to Nerja

Hi Gary

Me and my partner are heading to Nerja for a weeks holiday, we got a fantastically cheap flight to Granada for 1p each way and with trying to keep it low cost I am going to drive to Nerja, as the transfer was £200 !!! L

What directions do you recommend from the airport? This is my first time driving abroad so a little apprehensive, being first time, late and night and no idea where I am going !!!!!

Almeria Airport closed

Hi Gary
Do you know why Almeria airport has been closed today 22 March and all flights diverted to Granada? Hope you can help
Thank you
Sandy

My Reply...

Hi Sandy
I can find any information and wouldn-t know why it was closed.
How did you find out..
Regards
Gary

Hi Gary

Thanks for your reply. We found out because our son was flying to Almeria on that day and no-one had been told why the airport had been closed, so we were worried in case there had been an accident. But we found out later that apparently they had done some concreting on one of the runways and after one Monarch flight had landed and suffered some damage and later 2 other aircraft had the same problem, they realised that the concrete had not completely set!!! I may be old but I would have thought it was common sense to check before they let anything land!

Anyway thank you for trying to help. Meanwhile my son is having a wonderful holiday in Roquetas de Mar and is due home next Thursday. Let's hope Birmingham haven't decided to concrete the runway!

Airports near Nerja

Looking for information
Hola Gary,
You live in my country and I live in yours, well, I live in Ireland, are you Irish or English?
Well, my consultation is this: I'm planning to go to Nerja (Málaga) around middle May, just for a long weekend. I have been searching flights to Malaga but they seem to be quite expensive traveling Friday to Monday and even Thursday to Sunday and to Málaga city.
As my final destination is Nerja, which airport do you recommend me to fly to; Jerez, Sevilla ..?? How far are those cities to Nerja. I will probably rent a car for those days but also (as I don't know the area) I would not like driving very long time.
Thank you for your help. I've found your web site very handy as well.
Gracias y un saludo,

My reply...

English Living in Spain!!!
Jerez No!.. you could but quite far. Would be about 3 hours driviing I think. Its 90 minutes from Marbella and Nerja is about another 90!
Seville you could get a train down on the RENFE or drive 2 hours.
Try looking at Granada Airport about 100km from Nerja although no direct flights. YOu could fly to Stanstead and then change. onto Ryan Air.
Flights are expensive at the weekend, have a look at www.thomsonfly.com too! Sometimes they are cheap.
Also have a look at www.googlemaps.com You can get good maps and routes.

Creo que te he ayudado!

buen viaje

Malaga or Granada Airport to Nerja

Hi Gary,
Thank you for providing a helpful website for people travelling to Spain!
We have a property in Nerja and always fly to Malaga. The drive from Malaga airport to Nerja takes us approx 50 minutes. However, I notice there are some cheap Ryanair flights to Granada. Do you have an idea of how many km it is from the airport at Granada to Nerja and roughly how long it will take? (I would imagine the time will improve when the new motorway opens between Nerja and Almunecar, which must be imminent now.) Did you manage to find out what the annual price for parking was at Granada?

Many thanks for your help!

Deborah

My Reply...

from Granada Airport to Nerja is around 127km around 2 hours drive
Here is a page about Parking at Granada Airport and at the bottom is a number you could call for more information.
