Baggage handlers strike at Lanzarote Airport

Hi Steve & Shirley,

This is the latest situation "Baggage handlers at Arrecife Airport are threatening to take indefinite strike action next week. In a pay related protest that could cause disruption to British and Irish tourists. Baggage handlers employed by Swissport Menzies at Arrecife airport are set to go on strike next Thursday 11th September. A move that will affect travellers on Easyjet, Thomas Cook, Aerlingus, Condor, Iberworld and Futura.

Swissport Menzies is one of the five companies which handles luggage at Arrecife airport. Union representative, David Perdomo, declared that suitcases will arrive, but what could not be envisaged is how long it will then take to unload them and get them to passengers. As only a minimal service will be provided by the handlers.

Further 24 hour strikes are then planned every Thursday, Saturday and Sunday until the dispute has been resolved.

Union officials are keen to ensure that travellers are aware of the action and stressed that there is as little disruption caused to passengers as possible"

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news ...!

Linda

dear Gary,
do you know anything about arricife airport baggage handlers on strike on 11/09/08,as we are flying out that day with Thomas Cook.
Thank you Steve & Shirley.

Lost Property at Lanzarote Airport

Hi Gail,

Spanish Airports are inundated with calls about lost luggage and lost property at the moment so I'm afraid it's no surprise you couldn't get through. You can email Lanzarote Airport at aeropuertolanzarote@aena.es

Hope you manage to locate the items.

Linda

Hi Gary,
My name is gail Downey and i was recently on a flight into the airport in lanzarote. The flight was on the 19th July and the flight number is AEA238, flying with Air Europa. I think I may have left a set of car keys and a folder with some children's DVD's in it.
I tried to ring the airport directly but for some reason I can't get through. I would greatly appreciate it if you could forward me any info. that you could find out.
Thanking you

Hi Barbara,

The range of places is not great, but you can fly from Lanzarote to the following places in Spain:

In Germany:

Basel, Berlin, Cologne, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Hanover, Leipzig, Munich and Stuttgart.

Linda

Hello Gary,
Is there any information available to what destinations I can fly (in (Southern) Europe) from Lanzarote (I am making holiday plans for the weeks after my visit to Lanzarote and try to minimize travel).

This is end of august 2008. Thanks,

Ace Handling at Arrecife Airport

Hi Chris,

The number for Ace Handling at Arrecife is +34 928 846 220

Linda

Gary,

Do you by chance have an email address for Ace Handling at Arrecife airport? Can't find one for looking in the net!

I'm a disabled traveller and I need to contact them for a bit of assistance on my next trip. The airlines used to responsible for passenger assistance but now it's down to the Airport/handling agents and my airline has suggested that I do just that!

I'd be very grateful for any help you can give.

Regard,
Chris.

Taking goats milk into Lanzarote

Hi Fiona,

Firstly, you can take a limited amount of milk in your hand luggage - follow this link for details http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/prohibited/permitted-prohibited-items.shtm. This is obviously not enough
but the good news is you can transport more in your cabin baggage.

You can certainly get soya milk in Lanzarote and I would be surprised if goat's milk was not available as well as the Spanish supermarkets sell a lot of goats cheese and other related dairy products.

Linda

Hello
Could you please advise me whether or not we are going to be allowed to take goats milk (UHT) into Lanzarote, where we are arriving on Easyjet from Gatwick South on April 8th for a 10 day holiday with our 3 children, who are all allergic to cow's milk.
We will need to bring in several litres, and are also trying to find out whether or not we can buy in in Lanzarote when we get there?
Will we be able to pack it in our main luggage or does it need to go in the cabin baggage?
Would we be able to take soya milk if goats is a problem (soya not being made from animal products).
We are flying next Tuesday, so would appreciate a response soon
ma ny thanks

Car hire in Lanzarote

Hi Manda,

First of all if you hire a car you can ask for a baby seat to be provided as an extra. Ironically if you get a taxi from the airport they do not provide baby seats even though it is the law. We work with a company called Cartrawler who we find come up with very competitive quotes as they hold a database of local car hire firms which they match your requirements against. You can get a free online quote at http://www.spanish-airport-guide.com/lanzarote-airport-car-hire.html

To transport 7 of you to Playa Blanca from the airport you will need two taxis which will cost in the region of €28 each single fare so the private transfer seems the cheapest option. You can find out more about Lanzarote taxi charges at http://www.spanish-airport-guide.com/lanzarote-airport-taxis.html

There is a bus service from Arrecife to Playa Blanca and I have posted a link to the timetable for your info http://www.arrecifebus.com/archivos%20pdf/PLAYA%20BLANCA.pdf but again I think you are better off with the private transfer.

Linda

hi gary
could you help on a couple of things i am traveling to lanzarote again this april but with the whole family inc my 4 month old granson what are the laws on baby seats do we have to lug one around with us or could we hire one when we get there? also i suppose taking a taxi is our easy option to playa blanca as its late when we arrive a pre booked one for 7 seems a little expensive at 170 euros return. we are to hire a car for a couple of days where is the best place? thanks

Thomas Cook in Lanzarote

Many thanks for your help.

Michael

Hi Michael,

There is no Thomas Cook travel office but there is a ticketing desk in terminal 1 on the first floor - telephone 0870 243 0416

I can't find a tour operators office on Lanzarote. It is probably best if you contact Thomas Cook direct at http://book.flythomascook.com/skylights/cgi-bin/skylights.cgi as they have a FAQ section and you can also email them from there.

Linda

Is there a Thomas Cook Airlines office at Lanzarote (Arrecife) airport...and if not, is there one elsewhere on the island, eg Puerto del Carmen?

Opening times of Arrecife Airport

Hi Roberta,

The only indication that Arrecife will give on its opening and closing hours is that it will be closed when there are no flights operating. So it depends on what time of year you are travelling and on which day I'm afraid.

Linda

Hi,

I know that Arriciffe airport Lanzarote shuts during the night, can you please give me the opening and closing times.

Bringing foodstuffs in Spain

Hi Anthony,

As long as they are sealed and in your hold baggage and not your hand luggage then you can transport the pre-packed meat products from the UK into Arrecife.

Linda

I an told that there are no longer any restrictions on taking
pre-packed meat products _out_ of UK airports. Can I confirm that there
are no restrictions on bringing such items _in_ to Arrecife airport (
eg. frozen packs of bacon in main luggage).?

Restaurant opening rimes in Lanzarote

Hi Maeve,

The cafes art Lanzarote open "depending on air traffic" which means that they should be open when passengers are checking in so you should be able to get something to eat.

I don't know how you're getting from your resort to the airport but it's only 20 minutes by taxi.

Linda

Hi, just want to know what time the restaurants in Lanzarote airport will open for breakfast on saturday mornings? We are checking in at 6.10am & are hoping to get something when we get there so we don't have to get up too early. Should we eat before we go? Also what time should we leave Costa Teguise to check in at this time?
Thanks

Lost property at Arrecife Airport

Hi Brian,

You can contact Arrecife Lost property on 928 846 001 or email them at aeropuertolanzarote@aena.es

Hope you manage to locate it.

Linda

Gary,

We flew out of Arrecife Airport on Thursday 7th Feb at 1235hrs on TCX 970. Whilst at the airport my wife lost her gold bracelet. It is not a particularly valuable item but she treasured it for sentimental reasons.

She definately had it after the X-ray security search but noticed it was missing once on the aircraft. We checked all around and under the seats and asked the Air Cabin Crew but could not locate it and assume that it must have fell off in the terminal building possibly due to damage to a link? I realise that the chances of it being found and handed in are very remote but whilst the possibility exists its worth a try.

Would you please pass this e - mail on to Arrecife Lost Property and/or pass me their e - mail address.

Many thanks.
Regards,
Brian

Child Safety Seats

Hi Sharron,

Spanish taxis do not provide child seats but the transfer companies do. I don't know which company you used, but it might be worth your checking with Islas Canarias Tours at ahttp://www.islascanariastours.com/cgi-bin/rez60load.pl?transfers/book- transfers.html as they certainly provide seats and include the provision on their booking form.

Linda

We are flying to Lanzarote in October and have opted to arrange our own transfer to resort, having done this before and found it quicker and less stressful. When I tried to book the transfer a flag popped up that said we would need to provide car safety seats for both our children (aged 7 and 1). Whilst I'm all for the safety aspect of things I don't relish hauling 2 car seats around with us - how do we get around this? Do some taxi/transfer companies provide them? If we queued up at the taxi rank at Arrecife would we still need our own safety seats?

How to transport baby milk in hand luggage

Hi Raychel,

If you follow this link it wil give you full details on what the regulations are for baby food and milk in your hand luggage: http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/children/formula.shtm

Linda

Hi we are coming to lanzarote in october and we have a 18 week old baby. I will obviously need to take his milk on board the flight home with me. Can you tell me the best way for me to do this which complies with the security restrictions. Do i make the bottles up in full or take the bottles with boiled water and the powdered milk seperately. He needs more than the 100 ml allowance. Thank you so much

Flights to Lanzarote

Dear Gary

I wonder if you know……And could help me?

Are there any flights from Seville, Malaga or Faro that fly direct to Lanzarote? We have a place in Ayamonte, and during the Christmas period we would like to go to Lanzarote for a week, is there a way? Or even Cape Verde?

Would really appreciate your help as can't seem to get any easy answers on the web.

Thank you

Best Wishes

Mandy

Hi Mandy,

Currently Seville and Malaga are operating flights into Lanzarote as follows:

Seville - Air Nostrum, Spanair and Air Europa
Malaga - Air Europa, Air Nostrum

You will need to check their websites to check what they are offering over the Christmas period. Hope this helps.

Gate passes

Hi Gary

Is it possible to pay a gate pass so that wq can see our 16 year old daughter onto the aeroplane. she is coming on holiday withus in October, but she will only be staying for a week and returning a week earlier than us, and we would like to be with her as long as possible.

Thnak you
Carole Brown

Hi Carole,

Which airport is she departing from?

Linda

Sorry, she is deaprting from lanzarote(arrecife) airport.

thanks

Hi again Carole,

Have checked with Lanzarote Airport and with current security regulations they do not issue gate passes. All I can suggest is that when you get to the airport you go to the Aena (Spanish Airport Authority) Information desk near the check in counters and ask if they do anything to help.

Getting from Faro to Lanzarote

Hi Collette,

Faro is a small airport so you are not exactly spoiled for choice. The only flights from there which go to Spain are www.ryanair.com to Madrid or www.airberlin.com to Palma (but there are no flights from Palma to Lanzarote as the inter island flights do not operate from there so you would have to look into ferries).

The best best is to go into Madrid where you can book flights to Lanzarote via Iberia, Spanair or Air Europa.

Linda

Hi Gary

I need to fly from Faro to Lanzarote on the 19th November 2007. I know there are no direct flights, but could you possibly tell me what my flight/airline options are, please. Obviously, I would like the cheapest option available!

Thanks in advance for your help.

Lanzarote Airport - Lift for wheelchair

HI GARY

IS THERE A LIFT FROM THE INTERNATIONAL ARRIVAL AREA TO THE FIRST FLOOR WHERE YOU CAN COLLECT HIRED CAR?

WE ARE TRAVELLING WITH MY DISABLED FATHER WHO HAS HIS OWN WHEELCHAIR (LIGHTWEIGHT). LAST YEAR WHEN WE CAME TO GO OUT, WE WENT UP TWO VERY STEEP ESCALATORS TO THIS CAR PARK LEVEL. CERTAINLY WAS NOT VERY SECURE FOR ME HAVING TO HOLD HIM. THE REST OF THE FAMILY DIDN'T LIKE IT EITHER WITH THEIR SUITCASES. DIDN'T SEE ANY OTHER MODE OF ELEVATION.

JESSICA MCEWAN

My Reply...

Hi Jessica
I honestly can't remember!
You could call the helpline on 0034 904 404 704 (they speak English)
I know this sounds obvious but the other thing to do is split into two groups, and collect you father from the pick up / drop off area outside the terminal AFTER you have collected the car.
I hope all goes well and next year we are going to make a concerted effort to get better info for disabled travelers.

Lanzarote to Faro

Hi Gary
I want to fly from Lanzarote to Faro (Portugal) return, leaving approx 24-26 May, returning approx 4-6 June (but my dates are very flexible).

Can you tell me the cheapest/easiest/most convenient way to do this, please?

Also, could I go by boat? - I quite fancy a mini-cruise, if it was available!

Colette

My Reply...

Regarding a cruise---im not too sure.

However, you could fly from Lanzarote to Sevile with iberia. Some are direct some via Madrid. Then have a read of this previous question about travel between
Faro and Seville

I hope this helps
