La Palma Local Attractions
Santa
Cruz is the capital of La Palma, situated on the east coast of on
the slope of the mountain and on the edge of volcanic crater Cala
Cadereta. Calle Real is the centre of commercial and social life
which leads to Plaza España Sq where the sixteenth century
Cathedral El Salvador and the Town Hall stand. Santa Cruz de la
Palma has a Museum of Natural History with zoological exhibits and
traces of the original population as well as a large library.
Near the town stands the Sanctuary of Nuestra Señora de las Nieves, the patron saint of the island.
Los Llanos de Aridan is an important commercial and agricultural centre which lies in one of the loveliest valleys on La Palma and can be viewed in all its beauty from the observation platform of El Time where it is also possible to see La Cadera de Taburiente and Tijarafe.
Tazacorte is surrounded by banana-trees with a small, traditional
harbour and good beaches.
Puerto
de
Naos is a small tourist village with an excellent beach of fine,
back sand.
Fuencaliente is the most southerly village of the island, surrounded by pine forests and vineyards contrasting with the volcanoes: the most famous of which are San Antonio and Teneguía.
Mazo is next to the airport and where you will find the Belmaco Cave with prehistoric inscriptions and an observation platform with splendid view overlooking the coast.
Breña Baja has the beautiful Cancajos beach and a series of small coves with transparent water
Cueva Bonita is a natural grotto near Tijarafe which is flooded
by the sea.
Getting around in La Palma
If you are planning to explore the island and go to some of the more out of the way beaches then you might consider hiring a car.
