Its coastline is the Costa de la Luz which literally means “coast of light”. The area does have bright, vivid light that highlights the whitewashed villages, golden sand and blue sea. If you hire a car to get around and play at various golf courses inland you will find landscapes of wild sierras, fertile countryside, pastures of fighting bulls and vineyards. In spring the courses are covered with an explosion of flowers, and the mild and sunny winter attracts millions of birds to the area.

Located next to the La Barrosa beach in Chiclana de la Frontera, the 36 hole Novo Sancti Petri golf course was designed by Severiano Ballesteros. The course is split into two rounds of 18 holes with various water hazards, six lakes, abundant vegetation, tricky bunkers and a gentle ocean breeze that makes playing there a challenge for players of all levels.

The course comprises two different circuits: Round A (MAR-PINOS) has the first 9 holes with wide fairways and three lakes. The green of hole 6 is the most spectacular, situated on the beach, and holes 10 to 18 are surrounded by pine trees, without water hazards.

Round B (CENTRO): is flat for the first 9 holes, with a lake between holes 5, 8 and 9. Holes 10 to 13 are hillier with spectacular views over the Atlantic.

This course is dominated by the rock of Gibraltar and overlooks the Mediterranean Sea. The Alcaidesa is a Links course with a layout to suit all abilities.

It is an 18 hole course with sea breezes, ample fairways and flat greens. It was the first competition standard golf course in Spain and is a popular meeting place for professional and amateur golfers. You can hire clubs, carts and buggies here and relax in the club house after playing in the warm Mediterranean sun.

Eighteen hole course right next to the Jerez Formula 1 racing circuit, the Montecastillo Golf Resort opened in 1992 and was designed by Jack Nicklaus. It is one of the finest courses in Europe which hosted the Volvo Masters for five years. Club de Campo is an 18 hole course divided in 9 holes with a defined style of links with deep bunkers and small greens and 9 holes which are more “American style” with a number of obstacles and the water hazards on seven of the holes.

Getting around in Jerez
