Ibiza Airport is located at 7.5 kilometres to the south-west of Ibiza Town (Eivissa), near San José. The airport is also 5 km from the San Jorge area of Ibiza.The main access road is the PM-801 (Ibiza-airport) motorway. Or an alternative route is the PM-803 (Ibiza-San José) motorway taking the Km4 exit.
Ibiza Airport is one of the Island's largest employers: 2,200 people actually work at the airport, whilst thousands more (taxi drivers, bus drivers, guides, etc) are indirectly employed. Between 8-10% of Ibiza's population make a living directly or indirectly from the activities undertaken in the airport grounds.
There is one terminal at Ibiza Airport which copes well with the large amount of traffic in the summer with over 4.6 million passengers and 57,235 flights being handled there in 2008.
Due to improvement works on facilities and the opening of new commercial areas, some areas of the airport and access areas and lower and upper floors of the terminal building have been closed over the whole winter period but are due to open shortly.

During the six months of the peak season (May-October), the airport handles 85.6 per cent of the total volume of passengers (the number of passengers in August is eleven times higher than the figure for December).
Ibiza airport is currently carrying out improvements to its facilities in response to estimated future demand. In 2002 the check-in area, departures and arrivals lounges were all extended.
Other plans are: a car park for hire cars; the construction of a new general aviation terminal, two new rapid exit taxiways for operations at each of the departure points, and a new control tower; and the adaptation of the taxiway for use as an emergency runway.
