Gran Canaria Shops

It is worth shopping around for alcohol and spirits in Gran Canaria as prices can vary considerably: and the airport and on board the plane are usually the most expensive places to buy these goods.

Shopping in Gran Canaria

Calle TrianaCalle Triana in Las Palmas is one of the main shopping areas which grew around the old port and was historically the centre of commerce in Las Palmas. It is a pedestrianised shopping street in, with many of the big names that you would expect to find on a European high street with names including Zara, Marks & Spencer and Benetton. It has a relaxed atmosphere with a number of small side streets where you can enjoy a coffee or tapas in one of the many cafes.

Mesa y López is a wide avenue in Las Palmas which houses the big Spanish Department Stores such as El Corte Inglés and Cortefiel, and many fashionable shoe shops and Spanish designers like Caramelo and MassimoDutti.

Bearing in mind it's special tax status it may well be worth looking at buying expensive jewellery in Gran Canaria, especially if it's a big purchase such as engagement rings or a special pair of diamond earrings!

Centro Comercial Atlantico is a large Shopping Centre just a few kilometres south of the Airport at Vecindario. As well as the shops, there is a Multi-screen cinema (which shows some English films) and several restaurants. Many of the big Spanish stores are represented here with Zara, Springfield, Mango and Stradivarius as well as an enormous Carrefour Hypermarket.

CITA is one of the oldest and best known malls in Gran Canaria. It is in the centre of Playa del Ingles close to the dunes and beach. www.cc-cita.com

Getting around in Gran Canaria

If you are planning to explore the area outside of the city centre and play some golf or go to some of the more out of the way beaches then you might consider hiring a car. There are a number of car hire firms based at Las Palmas, Gran Canaria Airport who will be pleased to have a vehicle awaiting your arrival. This also cuts down on transfer costs for you and your family.
