Shops In Girona
The
best shopping is located in the old part of the city, where there
are fashion stores of recognized Spanish and Catalan designers,
as well as boutiques with international brands. You will find plenty
of jewellers, shoe shops and leather goods along the Rambla and
streets of Santa Clara or Nou. There are also small stores where
craftsmen make and sell their goods, antique emporiums full of original
and curious objects and food shops offering xuixa which is a cylindrical-shaped
pastry that is filled with cream botifarra dol which is a soft,
sweet sausage.

If
you are looking for handicrafts then it is worth making 32km drive
eastward to the hamlet of La Bispal (mid-way between Girona and
the town of Palamos). Here you will find rows and rows of shops
where dozens of artisans display and sell beautiful rustic ceramics.
To the north and south of Girona you will find the commercial areas Mas Gri, Mas Xirgu and l’Avellandeda, with specialist shops and hypermarkets.
Just south of Girona, roughly halfway between Girona and Barcelona you can find La Roca Village which is a large factory outlet and has a great selection of Designer Brands at great prices.
Getting around in Girona
If you are planning to explore the area outside of the city centre and play some golf or go to some of the more out of the way beaches then you might consider hiring a car. There are a number of car hire firms based at Girona Airport who will be pleased to have a vehicle awaiting your arrival. This also cuts down on transfer costs for you and your family.
