Girona Beaches
The nearest beach resorts to Girona are at Roses, Palamos and Platja d’Aro, but there are many others along the beautiful Costa Brava coastline. Listed below are the ones which are nearest to the city of Girona.
Beaches in Girona
Palamos:
Platja de Castell is a 375 metre long sandy beach with good amenities,
lifeguard services, bars and restaurants. Platja de la Fosca is
a 500 metre sandy beach which offers a wide range of water sports
with a sailing and windsurfing school as well as all amenities including
bars, restaurants, toilets and showers. Platja Gran is a large beach
with a small harbour for small cruisers, a sailing and ski school
and children’s play area.
Platja d'Aro main beach is 2400 metres long with every amenity and facility while the Platja de Sa Conca is a much smaller 400 metre beach with a beach bar and sun beds and parasols.
Roses
offers a great number of beaches and coves which range from small
unspoilt and relatively undiscovered coves to long stretches of
sand with all tourist amenities. There is a great deal to choose
from in this resort, with the larger beaches being near the centre
of Roses and the
smaller coves a short drive from the town. Probably the most remote
is Canadell which is a wild and secluded pebble beach situated between
the Jòncols and Pelosa coves about 10km from Roses. It is
only 60 metres long and has no services other than the essential
cleaning and coastal surveillance.
Getting around in Girona
If you are planning to explore the area outside of the city centre and play some golf or go to some of the more out of the way beaches then you might consider hiring a car. There are a number of car hire firms based at Girona Airport who will be pleased to have a vehicle awaiting your arrival. This also cuts down on transfer costs for you and your family.
