Car Hire Girona

If you want to explore the beautiful coastline and inland villages on the Costa Blanca in Spain, it is well worth considering hiring a car at Girona Airport as it is the best way of getting around and reaching all those places off the beaten track.

There is a company called CarTrawler who offer excellent rates for car hire at every Spanish Airport by forming partnerships with car rental companies and then checking your requirements against each firm to find the best price.

You can obtain a free online quote for your Spanish car hire here, but just to give you some indication of costs:  a Peugeot 206 or similar hired for seven days during the last week in September (Saturday to Saturday) will cost in the region of 94GBP (quotation includes collision damage waiver, theft protection, third party liability, VAT, unlimited mileage and airport fees).

The car hire desks at Girona Airport are located in the arrivals area and in the connecting hall between arrivals and departures.

Once you have completed all the relevant paperwork you will need to exit the terminal building and head to your right towards the bus stops where the road follows round to the left and leads you to the corresponding car hire offices in the car park and where you will be picking up your hire car at Girona Airport.

From here you simply head for the exit where you will immediately approach a roundabout with all major directions off the first exit on your right. All roads are very well signposted with clear directions to the national roads and AP 7 toll road.

When you are returning to Girona Airport to drop off your hire car simply follow the car hire return signs that will take you around the front of the Terminal Building and straight into the PO and P1 car hire car parks.

Girona occupies a prime central position with the main A-7 toll road running from the airport to the French border in the north and the Costa del Sol coast in the south.  Because there are so many nearby resorts, hiring a car is your best option for getting around this area. For example,  Lloret de Mar is about a 30 minute drive; Platja d`Ora is just under an hour; Barcelona is just over an hour and the capital Madrid is about eight and a half hours away.

If you are planning to tour around check that you have visibility vests in your hire car.  They are bright yellow slipovers which are compulsory in Italy, Austria and Spain (and likely to be law eventually throughout the EU). They must be carried inside the car rather than in the boot and you need one for everybody travelling in the car. If you break down and need to get out of your car and walk along a motorway to obtain assistance by going to an emergency telephone it is illegal to do so without wearing one.
