Gibraltar Shopping
Gibraltar
is a duty-free shopper’s paradise and still continues to offer
duty free goods despite changes elsewhere in Europe. Prices at the
airport, notably for tobacco and spirits, are among the least expensive
in the world. We have provided details of your duty
free allowances in Gibraltar.
Shops in Gibraltar tend to follow British rather than Spanish opening hours. The majority open from 09.00 to 18.00 Monday to Friday although some remain open a bit later. On Saturday most of the shops close at 13.30 and stay closed on Sundays unless there is a cruise ship in port.

Shopping in Gibraltar
The pedestrianised Main Street is Gibraltar’s principal shopping thoroughfare which runs almost the length of town. Turn off Main Street into the adjoining lanes and alleys to find even more shops. Items to look out for include jewellery (precious and semi-precious), wristwatches, sunglasses, cameras, glassware, porcelain, leather goods, electrical and electronic items, perfumes, silks and cashmere.
In fact the shear number of jewellery shops here mean that there are some great bargains to be had on diamond rings and diamond engagement rings. Our advice is to research the prices of what you want first and then haggle like mad when you're there!
You can take home a unique souvenir from the Gibraltar Crystal
Factory on Casemates Square
(www.gibraltarcrystal.com)
where you can see master glass blowers crafting molten glass into
beautiful items of crystal.
Many of the big British High Street names are also here including Marks & Spencer, Morrisons, Checkout Tesco, British Home Stores, Wallis, Next, Monsoon, Mothercare and Dorothy Perkins.
On Main Street you will find currency exchange centres with the vast majority offering a very good rate of exchange and charging no commission on cash transactions. But make sure you check careful before you change your money because at least one booth near the Piazza does charge commission.
Getting around in Gibraltar
If you are planning to explore the area outside of the city centre and play some golf or go to some of the more out of the way beaches then you might consider hiring a car. There are car hire firms based at Gibraltar Airport who will be pleased to have a vehicle awaiting your arrival. This also cuts down on transfer costs for you and your family.
