Gibraltar Restaurants

Catalan Bay When you visit Gibraltar sure you leave time to relax in one of the many al fresco bars and restaurants just watching the fascinating mix of cultures that pass by. Casemates Square at the end of Main Street in Gibraltar’s shopping district was once the site of public executions, but is now filled with fashionable outdoor restaurants, cafés and bars and well worth a visit.

Seafood is the speciality of the restaurants in Marina Bay and Queensway Quay. Catalan Bay is an old fishing village on the east side of the Rock and has a number of restaurants offering the fresh catch of the day.

This is not so much a wine bar as an English style pub, with a busy lunch business and one of the preferred venues for Gibraltar's business community who appreciate the free tapas served every day from 5.00 to 9.00 pm.

This restaurant is in a tucked-away corner of a pedestrian-only square on Main Street. It combines an indoor tapas bar with lots of outdoor tables on the square. Specialities include spicy Iberian fish stew, steak in a mustard-flavoured sauce, a collection of grilled fish that includes Dover sole imported from English waters and an array of tapas.

This is the finest dining room on Gibraltar offering panoramic views across the bay to the Spanish coastline and Morocco. There is an a la carte menu as well as a daily changing table d’hote. They specialise in fresh seafood, pan-roasted filet of lamb with basil salsa and seared filet of beef served with grilled baby leeks and a truffle foie gras. The starters are very imaginative with pumpkin and pancetta risotto, wok-seared black pepper beef with asparagus and a charred pineapple salad. For dessert the chocolate soufflé pancakes with cold vanilla custard are a triumph.

Getting around in Gibraltar

If you are planning to explore the area outside of the city centre and play some golf or go to some of the more out of the way beaches then you might consider hiring a car. There are car hire firms based at Gibraltar Airport who will be pleased to have a vehicle awaiting your arrival. This also cuts down on transfer costs for you and your family.
