Gibraltar Golf Courses

Crazy golfBecause Gibraltar is only 5.8 square miles and most of that space taken up by the famous Rock, golf courses in Gibraltar are only of the crazy variety. But don’t despair because a stone’s throw from Gibraltar is Spain’s Costa del Sol which has some of the best courses in Europe with over 40 of them located between Gibraltar and Malaga Airports.

The mountains, sea and valleys provide a wonderful scenic backdrop for the game, and this is especially evident on some of the famous courses in Golf Valley near Puerto Banus where you can find a wide variety of courses, ranging from the technical and demanding with challenging lakes and bunkers, to the straightforward with wide easy fairways.

Below are details of the two courses nearest to Gibraltar.

The Rock of Gibraltar is a few kilometres from Alcaidesa Links Golf Course and can be seen clearly from the course.

Alcaidesa is the first true links golf course in Spain which slopes down towards the sea with sand dunes and gorse bushes bordering the fairways. The 18 holes are uninterrupted beginning and ending at the club house with several holes running parallel with the seafront. There are few trees on the course but plenty natural vegetation creating notable roughs. The contrasting tones of blue sea, golden sand and verdant greens are stunning.
The two prevailing winds on the Mediterranean/Atlantic coast make certain holes a breeze on this course and others a torment. Alcaidesa has several quirky holes where intelligence is as much in demand as physical skill
