Gibraltar Beaches
Gibraltar has six beaches with four of them covered with golden sand: Sandy Bay, Eastern Beach, Catalan Bay, Camp and Little Bay and Western Beach.
Beaches in Gibraltar
Catalan
Bay is on the east coast of Gibraltar and is a rocky
cove with a quiet sandy beach which was used by Spaniards fleeing
from Napoleon’s invasion of Spain in the 19th century. It
is a former fishing village and home of Genoese settlers on the
Rock which still retains much of its charm and is a lovely place
for a stroll or to sit and have something to eat.
Eastern Beach is the largest beach on the Rock and a sunbather’s paradise because it gets full uninterrupted sun for most of the day.
Sandy Bay is a small beach used mostly by the locals. It is in the south where the rock is sheer and it is quite difficult to park here.
Camp Bay and Little Bay
are on the western side of the Rock and face the Atlantic. They
have been fully developed as beach resorts with a
series of interconnecting terraces providing easy access to the
sea. Camp Bay is near to the cruise ship terminal and the site of
a spectacular man made waterfall. It has a small swimming pool for
younger children, with changing room facilities and a summer café.
Western Beach is rocky and surrounded by rugged cliffs connecting to the water’s edge in places. Many unusual birds nest here.
