Fuerteventura Shopping
Generally
clothes and shoes are cheaper in Spain than in the UK, and there
are some good shops in Corralejo and some of the Spanish chains
and a Laura Ashley are represented in Puerto del Rosario. You will
have no problem finding expensive designer items in any of the tourist
resorts, and for bargain hunters there is also a small Benetton
outlet store in Corralejo. If you are staying in Corralejo you can
take a day-trip to the Biosfera Shopping Centre in Puerto del Carmen
on the neighbouring island of Lanzarote. Remember to carry your
passport or diving licence if you want to use your credit card!
Shopping in Fuerteventura
There
are two main shopping malls on Fuerteventura in Caleta de Fuste
and Puerto del Rosario. The largest and newest shopping complex
is Las Rotondas in Puerto del Rosario which opened in 2006. It features
many top brand name boutiques and offers restaurants and a large
underground car park.
Avda Castillo y Leon and roads running parallel with it in Puerto
del Rosario have a number of interesting little shops that are worth
looking around. The town's major department store, Norte y Sur,
is some distance away in the city's banking area along Avd Jean
de Bethencourt.
The
Atlantico Centre on the edge of Caleta de Fuste stands in attractive
gardens around a lake. It has some classy boutiques and shoe shops
as well as a large supermarket and a number of restaurants and bars,
a modern ten pin bowling alley, a multi screen cinema which shows
English films and an amusement arcade. Opening hours are 10.00 am-10.00
pm
There are a number of interesting shops along the main street in Morro Jable, set back under a shaded walkway. There are also a couple of commercial centres just off the main street. The old part of Morro Jable has lots of shops that cater for the needs of local residents including interesting jewellery shops selleing diamond rings and engagement rings.
Virtually all of the shops, stores, furniture and DIY centres - with the exception of those in Las Rotondas and Atlantico - have siesta opening hours which means they are open in the mornings and again in the late afternoon.
Getting around in Fuerteventura
If you are planning to explore the area outside of the city centre and play some golf or go to some of the more out of the way beaches then you might consider hiring a car. There are a number of car hire firms based at Girona Airport who will be pleased to have a vehicle awaiting your arrival. This also cuts down on transfer costs for you and your family.
