Fuerteventura Local Atttractions
The
island of Fuerteventura is well worth exploring. If you move away
from the main towns you will come across a number of charming villages
including Antigua with its 200 year old restored windmill, La Oliva
with its excellent art gallery, El Cotillo with its 18th century
fortified tower, Villaverde which is one of the best preserved villages
on the island and Betancuria.

Fuerteventura
is the oldest of the Canary Islands dating back 20 million years
from a volcanic eruption, but the majority of it was created about
five million years ago and since then has been eroded by wind and
weather.
The highest point in Fuerteventura is Mount Jandia (807 m) in the south western part of the island. The island is divided into two parts, the northern portion which is Maxorata and the south western Jandia Peninsula
Geographical features include Istmo de la Pared which is 5 km wide
and is the narrowest part of Fuerteventura.
Getting around in Fuerteventura
If you are planning to explore the area outside of the city centre and play some golf or go to some of the more out of the way beaches then you might consider hiring a car. There are a number of car hire firms based at Girona Airport who will be pleased to have a vehicle awaiting your arrival. This also cuts down on transfer costs for you and your family.
