The airport at Fuerteventura is located in El Matorral which is just five kilometres from the island’s capital of Puerto del Rosario.
Most of the flights are to European Union countries with Germany and the United Kingdom representing 79% of the international traffic. Domestic traffic centres around the three destinations of Gran Canaria, Madrid - Barajas and Tenerife Norte.
Passenger traffic shows a steady growth and in 2006 the airport received 4,424,880 passengers handling 44,044 flight operations and transporting 3,179 tonnes of cargo.
Fuerteventura Airport is a single two storey terminal building with two runways. After you have disembarked, passed through passport control and made your way to the Arrivals Hall you will come to the baggage reclaim area which is located on the ground floor of the building and has eight baggage carousels, one of which is reserved for special baggage. This area has plenty of toilets, a cafeteria, tourist office, lost luggage offices, car hire offices, tour operators and cash machines. You will also find information about local taxi prices and the car hire firms have windows into this area with desks to the left as you leave the area.
Companies including Avis, Hertz, Atesa, Autos Reisen, Betacar, Cicar and Europcar have offices here and If you have arranged car hire then you should report to the relevant desk.
There are free baggage trolleys on all floors and in the car parks. Left luggage enquiries should be made to Iberia LAE Handling and Eurohandling or to the Information Desk on the ground floor.
Other facilities here include a pharmacy, children's play area (on the first floor), and baby changing facilities in all the toilets as well as arcade games and a first aid service on the ground floor
The transfer times from Fuerteventura airport to the main resorts are Antigua (40 minutes),Calette de Fuste (20 minutes), Corralejo (40 minutes), Costa Calma (60 minutes), Cotillo (40 minutes), Jandia (90 minutes) and Nuevo Horizonte(30 minutes).
