Almeria Airport Information
The airport in Almeria is not a huge international one but it is very well maintained and serviced because of the high volume of incoming tourists, especially from the United Kingdom and Northern Europe. There are also many cheap flight combinations to be had if you fly in via Madrid or Barcelona.
The main reason for the growing number of passenger is due to the arrival of flights from some of the UK’s leading low cost airlines. The airport at Almeria is under continuous development to cope with this and in 1995 the passenger terminal was remodelled and in 2002 a new cargo terminal started operating. In 2005 Almeria played host to the 25th Mediterranean Games and in 2007 passenger numbers peaked with a record number of 1,206,634 with 20,139 flight operations. This is quite an increase from just 750,000 visitors in 1996.
