Alicante information
Alicante has a number of palaces worth visiting which include the Gavina Palace and Provincial Gallery with fine paintings from the 19th century. The bullring there is one of the oldest in Spain (built in 1849) and is still in use.
The old quarter of the city is a maze of small streets full of multi-coloured buildings which climb the hill. Higher up are whitewashed houses that offer spectacular views of the city and bay.
15km south of Alicante is the guitar-shaped Tabarca Island which is a 30 hectares marine reserve. It was once a refuge for Berber pirates, and in 1760 King Carlos III ordered a fortress to be built here. You can now take a short boat ride from Alicante harbour to the island.
At the harbour there is still a working fishing fleet as well as pleasure crafts, passenger vessels, nautical schools and sailing clubs. There is a wide selection of bars and restaurants where you will find some of the finest fish restaurants in the area.
Remember that when you get to Alicante you need to move your watches forward by one hour. This is the case no matter what time of year you travel as the clocks in Spain change at the same time as the clocks in the UK.
To get to your holiday destination you have the choice of pre-booking private Alicante Airport transfers, catching one of the many Alicante Airport buses or getting one of the normal Alicante Airport taxis.
Alicante airport is also where you will find the best deals on all car hire. After getting off your flight from Coventry to Alicante simply head for the arrivals hall where you will be met by the company you have hired the car from.
