Rising costs of holidays abroad hit British holidaymarkers

A survey of 1540 GMTV viewers has revealed the impact the credit crunch has had on holiday plans this year with over 70% of those surveyed holidaying on a tight budget and 40% worried that they will be in debt when they return.

Over 64% of people surveyed said that the strong Euro will force them to make cutbacks abroad and 36% said they will be downgrading their accommodation. And of those who are not going on holiday this summer, 70% said it was because they couldn't afford it.

Hi Linda,

Thank you for your fast reply!
I've just send them an e-mail with all the details I could think of.

Annie de Weert, Emmen, Holand.

Hi Annie,

Sorry to hear what happened. You an email Barcelona Airport at bcninfofi@aena.es

Linda

Hi,

Not earlier then ariving at home we noticed not having our camera anymore......

We think somebody toke it at the Barcelona airport when we went throug customs. I had to take my shoes of (there is some metal on them) and walk throug the gate on my socks. My husband, daughter of 18, son of 16 and a family friend were all amused and looked at me for an instand instead of minding our luggage. Because our friend has an artificial hip (at a fairly young age), custums checked her also right after me; it must have given somebody the opportunity to take our camera with all our pictures of Barcelona..........
Now I would like to e-mail to Barcelona airport but I can't find an e-mail address on the internet.
I did find a telephonenumber, but none of us speaks Spanish good enough to make our selves clear on the phone. My English is good enough I think, but what about the English of the most Spanish people?
Please, can you help?

I hope you will reply as soon as posible, many thanks ,

Annie de Weert, The Netherlands.

Flying from Adelaide to Almeria via Barcelona

Hi Fern,

You need to check with the airline you are travelling with from Adelaide as to whether or not you can check your luggage right through to Almeria.

Linda

Hi Gary,

I am traveling to Spain later this year - The booking has been made from Adelaide through to Almeria via Barcelona.

As Spain is the country of destination, would I clear customs & immigration at Barcelona and then check-in for a domestic flight to Almeria?
Or would we go to a transit lounge and clear customs and immigration upon arrival at Almeria airport?

Thanks for your help!

Getting from La Linea to Puerto de la Duquesa

Thanks so much for your help Linda!

Best wishes,
Emma

Hi Emma,

First of all it is 32km journey from the airport to Puerto de la Duquesa so a taxi will cost in the region of €50 single fare.

You can get a bus from La Linea to Estepona but I'm afraid I don't know where it stops. The best thing is to contact the people you are renting the villa from.

Linda

Hi,

I was hoping for some help with buses for the above.

I'm landing in Gibraltar so was hoping to catch a bus from La Linea into Puerto Duquesa - the villa we are staying at is on Calle Acacias and I know the nearest bus stop is on the N340.

Do you know which bus I would need? I visited the website you gave in a post but it's a little unclear which stop there.

Failing that, can you advise houw much a taxi would roughly cost?

Many thanks in advance,
Emma

Buying bus tickets at Asturias Airport

Hi Ann,

Yes, that's fine. If you can have the right fare ready (€5.95) for the driver of the bus from Asturias to Oviedo it will make life easier.

Linda

I am due to be flying into Asturias on Thursday, and was hoping just to purchase a ticket to go to Oviedo straight from the driver of the alsa bus. Is this possible, as all I can see on the internet is buying in advance!

VIP lounges at Murcia Airport

Hi Barbara,

I am not aware of any VIP lounges at Murcia Airport, but Monarch do have a separate check in desk for Vantage Gold members.

Linda

Hope you can answer this for me but does Murcia Airport have an executive lounge for Monarch customers who are flying with a Gold Card. The Gold Card enables you to use the Executive lounge service if available. Also now that Monarch are flying into Murcia is there fast tracking available for Vantage Gold members as there is in Almeria and other airports

Changing terminals at Madrid Airport

Hi Fanny,

There are transit shuttle buses to take you between the terminals are Madrid Airport and you will see their stations signposted when you arrive in Terminal 1. The buses run every few minutes and the journey time is also just a few minutes.

Whether you have to collect your luggage at T1 and recheck it in at T4 depends on which airlines you are travelling with and you need to check with them.

Linda

Please advice me if I take a Thai Airways arrive at Madrid Barajas Airport Terminal 1 and need to connect my flight to Barcelona by Iberia Airlines at Terminal 4. How do I go from Terminal 1 to Terminal 4? By walk or transfer by shuttle bus? How long for the journey. Same time, we need to take out our luggage?

Hi Mary,

Valencia Airport stays open as long as there are flights operating as I am afraid they do not fly into the airport throughout the night so you will need to book into a hostel.

Dear Gary,

I am flying to Valencia airport on the 13th july, and arriving at about 10 at night and have an early flight out again the next morning so was wondering whether you know if the airport will be staying open that night or whether it would be best to book into a hostel?

Thanks for the update on Clarets which I have now removed and your restaurant has been added. You can view it at restaurants in Tenerife.

Hi Gary

I have tried emailing info@spainish-airport-guide.com but it bounces...

So would you be able to help me?

I was wondering if we could included in you restaurant listing for Tenerife?

And by the way, Clarets, a restaurant listed there closed 3 months ago...

Please let me know either way. Many thanks.

Buggy hire at Palma Airort

Hi again Dave,

We come across this mobility problem time and time again I'm afraid. You cannot reserve a buggy at Palma Airport but there are always plenty around. It is worth mentioning that you need a buggy when you check in at the UK end (just in case they can help), but more importantly tell the cabin crew on your outgoing flight that you need one to be waiting outside the aircraft for your wife when you land in Palma. They can radio ahead to their ground handling staff in Spain and arrange for one to be waiting for her.

Getting from Alicante to Rojales

Hi Kirsty,

Rojales is about a 55km drive from the airport so I would guess you have been quoted about about €70 single fare per taxi and presume you would need two. Your other option is to get a quote for a private transfer from Alicante for a vehicle that could take all six of you which you can do be clicking on the link above.

I have looked through all the various bus options and afraid there are no routes from the airport which will help you get to Rojales. You can have a look at the various buses which operate from Alicante Airport here

Linda

Hi there I'm sorry to e-mail you, i'm not sure if that is how the site works as i couldn't find anywhere to post a question.
I was just wondering if you could help us. We are a group of 6 adults looking to get to Rojales from Alicante airport. I can't find many options and the taxi's are quite expensive, is this our only option?
I would be very grateful for any help you can offer as we leave on Monday.

Aer Lingus Dublin to Bilbao Route

Hi Alfredo,

The service started late in 2004. You can find out more about flights from Dublin to Bilbao if you click on the link.

Linda

Hi Gary,

I was wondering if you know when the Aer Lingus DUB BIO route was opened. I believe it is in 2004, but have been unable to find conclusive proof.

Why the question? I am from Vitoria (close to Bilbao) but have been living in Dublin for a few years now. I didn't know that this route existed, so I am curious about how much time I've been daydreaming....

If there is a link to a press release or any travel site that specifically mentions the opening of the route, with a date, I'd be really grateful if you could forward it to me.

Thanks for your excellent site.

You need to catch the A1 Aerobus which runs to Plaza Catalunya until 01.00 in the morning. You can get more details of timetables, etc, at Spanish Airport Guide Barcelona buses

If you are delayed for any reason and arrive too late for the buses then a taxi will cost in the region of €20-22 single fare for both of you.

My husband and I will be arriving at Barcelona airport on Friday 2nd May approximately 2330 hours. Are there still buses running to Plaza Catalunya at that time as we will be staying in hotel in Eixample district and intended taking a taxi from there after leaving airport bus, or would be better taking taxi all the way from airport, if so roughly what should we expect to pay.

Many thanks.
