Asturias Restaurants
All
of the traditional restaurants in Asturias will serve the regional
dish of Fabada, which is a bean stew made of white Asturian beans,
red sausage (chorizo), black pudding (morcilla) and diced bacon.
There are more than a hundred of different types of cheese in Asturias,
with the best known being Cabrales which is produced only in the
village of the same name and three villages of the Peñamellera
Alta township which are on the northern spur of the Europa Peaks
in eastern Asturias. This is a blue goat’s cheese which is
rated
as one of the best in the world.
Apple groves produce the traditional alcoholic drink, a natural cider (sidra). When Asturian cider is served it is poured “El Escanciador”: because it is natural and bottled without gas the bottle is held above the head allowing for a long vertical pour which aerates the cider as it splashes into the glass held at hip level, giving it a pleasant "zingy" taste.
