ANOTHER low cost airline has started operating from Newcastle Airport.
Jet2.com, which has established bases at LeedsBradford and Manchester airports, is starting a new service to Murcia Airport in Spain from Newcastle International Airport.
Murcia is already one of the airline’s most popular destinations with double daily flights from both Leeds and Manchester.
Close to the world famous resort of La Manga, Murcia is a perfect gateway to Costa Calida and Costa Blanca and a great low cost alternative to flying into Alicante.
Fares will start from just £31 one way inclusive of taxes when the service takes off.
Jet2.com boss Philip Meeson said: “We already attract many passengers from Teesside and County Durham who use our base at Leeds Bradford, but now we’re able to open up low cost flights to the Costa Calida to the whole of the North-East.
“There are around a million people within an hour’s drive, so we are confident this will be a great success for us.”
Head of operations at Newcastle International Airport, Dave Laws, commented: “This is great news for our passengers, who will now have yet another low cost airline serving a fantastic new sunshine destination direct from the North-East.”
Flights to Murcia from Newcastle are now on sale with the first flight departing 4th September 2005.
Jet2.com will fly four times a week in the winter and daily during the summer.
