Almeria Shopping

Shopping in Almeria centres around the Paseo de Almeria, Puerta de Purchena, Obispoorbera and Calle de las Tiendas. The principal local crafts are brightly coloured ceramics and pottery from Albox, Nijar, Sorbas and Vera; basketwork from Almeria, Alhabia and Nijar; locally made rugs, bedspreads and blankets with strong Moorish influence come from Albox and Berja and marble objects are produced in Macael.

Most of the shops and supermarkets in Roquetas are open all day and well into the evening and from about 9.00 pm which is promenade time a number of stalls are set up along the promenade. Goods ranging from T-shirts, sunglasses, CDs, wooden engravings and jewellery can be purchased here. There are also a number of stalls where women braid hair or wrap coloured thread around it.

Some of the main shopping malls in Almeria are the Gran Plaza, Roquetas de Mar which is a large shopping centre with several UK fashion boutiques: La Esquina Puerto Rey, Puerto Rey which has shops, supermarkets, restaurants and bars: the Mediterraneo Centre, Almeria has a number of fashion outlets, a supermarket, and cafés. It has underground parking and is open every day except on Sunday. If you are staying in Mojacar the Parque Comercial Mojacar Playa, Mojacar Playa has a large supermarket, shops, cafés, banks and bars

If you are planning to explore the area outside of the city centre and play some golf or go to some of the more out of the way beaches then you might consider hiring a car. There are a number of car hire firms based at Almeria Airport who will be pleased to have a vehicle awaiting your arrival. This also cuts down on transfer costs for you and your family.
