Almeria Restaurants
In
the historic quarter you'll find bars and wine cellars where you
can get good wine which often comes with some free tapas. Bodega
Montenegro, in the centre near the cathedral, offers a great range
of authentic tapas - spicy prawns, mussels, local "chorizo"
sausage and "albondigas" (meat balls in tomato sauce).
Casa Puga in Calle Jovellanos is also excellent for tapas and the
area of Tenor Iribarne is well worth exploring.
There are a number of fashionable restaurants on Avenida de Frederico Garcia, and for good quality, reasonably priced food head for the area of Puerta de Purchena at the end of the Paseo de Almeria. The whole area of Almeria is full of good quality low-cost restaurants where you can eat an excellent "menu del dia" (three-course meal with wine) for the same price as you would pay for a gin and tonic in a London club!
We have listed below some details of just a few of the recommended restaurants in the area together with their telephone numbers (and websites where appropriate). It is strongly recommended that if you are visiting Almeria during the high season you make a reservation.
