The airport at Almeria offers good transport communication links with resorts along the eastern cost of Spain with the AL-12 motorway and A-7 Autovia close by.
When driving in Spain it is worth remembering a few basic rules: be especially careful when setting off from service stations or restaurants on the left side of the road. When overtaking allow more space than you would normally between you and the car in front so you can see further down the unfamiliar road ahead.
Gone are the days when you could drink and drive in Spain as they now have (and rigorously enforce) very strict drinking laws only allowing 0.5 milligrams of alcohol per millilitre of blood. This is lower than the UK where the limit is 0.8. New drivers are in effect forbidden to drink and drive with a very low 0.1 limit. The wearing of seat belts in the front and rear of the hire car are obligatory everywhere. Speed limits are strongly implemented with frequent radar traps with speeding and other traffic offences subject to on the spot (and sometimes pretty hefty) fines.
