Car rental at Palma Airport

Thanks - will do!

Hi Stella,

There is a tunnel connecting Palma Airport Terminal with the car park and the ground floor of the car park is reserved for the car hire companies so Record should keep their cars there. But if you are travelling during August/September it is probably worth checking with them just in case they are keeping additional vehicles on the airport perimeter. In which case they should provide a shuttle bus to get you there.

Linda

Record Rent a Car has an office in the Arrivals hall. Do you know if we will then have to travel away form the airport to actually pick up the car and drop off at the end of rental period. If so, how far away from the airport is this and how do we get there?

Thanks

Checking status of flights at Murcia Airport

Hi again Sheila,

You can check the flight status of departures at Murcia Airport with Aena (Spanish Airport Authority) by clicking on this link

Or you can ring Monarch at the airport on 968 172 045

Linda

Hello Linda
Good of you to reply. We fly from Murcia late on Wednesday evening. I'm told by friends I should be able to check with the airline (which in this case is Monarch) but it's all gobbledegook to me - not very good with computers I'm afraid.
Thanks anyway.
Sheila

Hi Sheila,

You can only check on the day. I can send you details of where to check it if you tell me which airport are you flying from.

Linda

Gary
Could you tell me where I can find out if our Monarch flight next Wed 20th Aug will still be flying on time?

PLANE CRASH AT MADRID AIRPORT

A passenger plane bound for Gran Canaria has skidded off the runway on takeoff at 14:30 local time from Terminal 4 at Madrid airport today. It is a Spanair charter flight with around 160 people on board. At the moment there are conflicting reports of fatalities and injuries, but the national newspaper El Mundo is reporting at least 50 people have been killed and 20 injured, while local radio is stating there are 20 injured and none killed.

The cause of the incident remains unknown but there are reports of a fire in the left engine which caused the plane to abort takeoff and swerve. Smoke is billowing from the aircraft and Madrid Airport has declared a state of emergency.

You can get up to date information as more is known from Sky.news and BBC.news

"Reports say there was a fire on an engine and the take-off was aborted, causing the aircraft to swerve off the runway but it is not at all clear really what happened."

Getting from Alicante to Tangier

Hi Mikayla,

I'm afraid there are no direct bus links from Alicante to Algeciras, and the journey would be a very difficult one and involve several changes (and probably take at least a day to do as there is no railway line in that area and it's over 600km and would take almost 7 hours to drive). I would fly into Tangier!

Linda

Hi Gary,

Thanks for what appears to be an amazing service for travellers to Spain. I'm hoping to head over to Morocco for a tour which leaves from Tangier and was dismayed to find that flights to Tangier are very expensive. I have found lots of cheap flights going to Alicante Spain however, and was wondering if it is possible to catch a train from Alicante airport down to Algeciras (I think this is what the port city where the Tangier ferry leaves from) and then catch the ferry to Tangier. Do you know if this is possible, and, if so, how long it would take/how expensive/how difficult (for someone alone with no Spanish!)? Thanks heaps! Mikiayla Jones.

Getting from Bilbao to San Sebastian

Hi Russell,

If you click on this link for the Alsa buses website it gives you details of buses from central Bilbao to San Sebastian . And you can find out how to get from the airport to the centre of Bilbao here.

This link connects you to the Pesa website but they do not run buses to San Sebastian.

Dear Gary

I am trying to work out how to get to San Sebastian from Bilbao airport tomorrow evening.

I land at 21.10 and my hotel tells me that there is a bus that runs direct from the airport to San Sebastian, leaving at 21.45 and 22.45. They have referred me to the pesa.net website but I cannot find any reference to these particular buses. I have emailed Pesa but they have not replied.

Do you have any information on relevant transport links which would enable me to make my required journey?

Many thanks

I don't know of any transport across the border for passengers with mobility problems I'm afraid. Sorry not to be of more help.

Getting from Murcia to Ibi

Hi again Elaine,

There are very limited bus services from Murcia Airport. You can get a taxi into Murcia (which is quite a journey) when you land and stay there for the night. Then you can either get a train from the Renfe station in the centre of Murcia to Alicante the morning or a bus from Murcia to Alicante (which you can travel on overnight) and then it's a taxi to Ibi as I cannot find any bus or train conections.

If you do decide to stay overnight and travel the following day you can find a selection of pensions/hotels in Murcia here.

Personally by the time you have paid for a taxi into Murcia, bus and train fares and maybe an overnght stay I would opt to get a taxi from the airport straight to Ibi.

Linda

HI Thanks very much for your reply. Do you think it would be better if we stayed in a bed and breakfast on arrival and get a bus or train the next morning. If so do you recomend anywhere near the airport. Thanks for all your help, Elaine

Hi Elaine.

Ibi is over 130km and about a 90 minute drive from Murcia Airport (Alicante Airport is the nearest at 45km away). I'm afraid at 11.00 at night there are no buses or trains so you will need to get a taxi which will cost around €160 single fare for both of you.

Your other option is to hire a car from Murcia Airport and you can get a free online quote by clicking on the link.

Linda

Carrying fluids through Spanish Airports in your hand luggage

Hello Gary, I hope you can help

Can you please advice the current rules about bringing fluids back in hand luggage to the UK through Spanish Customs

In England you can not carry fluids through security checks

So last year when returning from our holidays
we put some spirits in our suitcases , only to find out that we were well over our luggage allowance

after we paid the difference we were told that we could have taken the bottles out and carried them through as the regulations are different in Spain to the UK is this correct ?
