Lost property at Ibiza Airport

Thank you for your help Linda.

Hi Sally-Ann,

You need to contact the lost property office at Ibiza Airport. Their number is +34 971 809 207 or you can email them at ibizaservicios@aena.es

You might have to wait a while for a response I'm afraid as this is their busiest time of year and they are inundated at the moment.

Linda

Hi Gary

Sorry to bother you but I wonder if you can please help me? On Friday 18 July at around 11.30 pm I left my watch in the plastic box that you put your items in that goes through the x-ray machine (at Ibiza Airport). The watch is silver, with a round face with diamonds around it, and 'River Island' written on it and has great sentimental value.

Is there anyway this could be located? If so, is there a way I can pay for this to be sent back to me in England?

I would be very grateful if you could email me back.

Many thanks.

Child seats in Spanish taxis

Many thanks for coming back to me Linda.
Kind regards.
Sarah

Hi Sarah,

Very few Spanish taxis (practically none) carry child seats so don't worry about your daughter as you can sit with her in the back of the taxi and transport her that way.

Linda

Hi Gary

Please can you advise whether the airport taxis in Palma allow babies to travel in their taxis without a car seat. She will be 18 months at time of travel. Do I need to hire a car seat or do some taxis already services provide this additional service.

Many thanks

Getting to Zahara de los Atunes

Hi again David,

You can fly into Gibraltar with Monarch Airlines from Luton and Easyjet Airlines from Gatwick and into Jerez from London Stansted with Ryanair If you click on the links you can get more information on timetables and prices.

Zaraha de los Atunes is 110km from Jerez Airport and about a 1 hour 30 minute drive and 84km from Gibraltar (about a 1 hour and 10 minute drive) - both are on motorways so there is very little in it. If you want to hire a car from Gibraltar Airport you have to cross the border into La Linea (about a 10 minute walk) and hire it from there. Of you can get a free online quote for car hire from Jerez Airport here.

Both airports have good motorway connections to Tarifa and Zahara de los Atunes and if you have driven in Menorca you should not find driving too difficult here.

I think at the end of the day your decision will come down to which flights are most convenient ones for you.

Linda

Hi Linda

Luton, Stansted & Gatwick are all relatively conveniet for us. We would probably opt for Gatwick as this is more likely to give us the morning flights we perfer& is usaully less expensive..

Regards

David

Hi David,

Which airport are you flying from in the UK?

Linda

Gary

Just found your site & some great information,

We are looking to travel to Zahara de los Atunes. Most sites advise using Jerez Airport but Gibralta seems much nearer. Can you advise which is more practical and what is the driving like for the european novice, my only previous experience is on Menorca.

Thanks

Driving in Andalucia

Hi Hanim,

It's a 230km drive from Malaga Airport to Seville which is motorway all the way and should take you about 2 hours and 30 minutes. It's a 260km drive from Seville to Granada which should take you just under 3 hours. As Granada is built in the mountains it can be quite a tiring place to visit with a few steep slopes to climb up to get to places like the Alhambra so it is going to be quite a long day if you are going to take in all the sights. I don't know what time of year you are planning to visit Spain, but it is advisable to book tickets for the Alhambra in advance to avoid lengthy queues. You can find out more info and do this at www.alhambradegranada.org

You can get a free online quote for car hire at Malaga Airport by clicking on this link.

Linda

Hi

I'm planning to fly to Malaga, rent a car and drive to Seville.
How long does it take to drive from malaga airport to Seville central, please? I plan to make Seville my "base" place before travelling to the rest of other places. I'm bringing my 65 years old parents who love architecture and history, and prefer to rent at the same apartment through out the stay

On the next day, I plan to drive from Seville to Granada to visit Alhambra and plan to go back to seville on the same day. Do you think it is possible ?

Thank you for your help

Taxi firms at Bilbao Airport

Hi Eoin,

If you click on this link it gives you details of taxi firms which operate from operate from Bilbao Airport which can transport your parents to Valcaba.

It's a 108km journey from the airport to Valcaba so a taxi (which will take up to 4 people) will cost in the region of €150 single fare.

Linda

Hola,

excuse por favor mi escritura esto en inglés :

Together with my parents, my family will visit Asón Agüera this August.

We are staying (altogether 17 people) in a Posada in Valcaba, Valle de Soba. (nearest town is Ramales de la Victoria)

Most of the family members will arrive later by car, and my parents will come first by airplane from Ireland to Bilbao.

I am trying to find the easiest way for my parents to come from Bilbao airport to Valcaba.

Can you help ?

The train FEVE goes from Bilbao to Gibaja, but only runs 3 times each day.

Is there a taxi company in Bilbao or Santander that will collect my parents from Bilbao airport with their luggage and bring them to the Posada in Valcaba ?

Do you have an estimate of how much it will cost in total ? Are these trips usually arranged by a pre-payment basis for an agreed total fare or is it required to rent the taxi at the airport and pay the total on the meter ? Is there a list of approved taxi companies and telephone numbers to call ?

Gracias mucho por su ayuda

Excess luggage charges at Palma Airport

Hi Matthew,

It's not the airport you are travelling from which receives any money for excess baggage charges but the airline you are travelling with - they set the limits. I suspect it goes towards subsidising the high fuel charges they are now having to pay.

Linda

Hi,
I had the mis-fortune of having to pay a Luggage Excess at Palma Last Saturday (3 Kg Over), at a cost of 8 Euros per Kg - 24 Euros. (A Charge I could do without!!)

When I asked the less than friendly Airport Authorities Desk Girl if she could explain what actually happened to the Excess monies raised through this method, she was rather curt??

Was interested to understand what actually happens to my 24 Euros. (First Airport I have used which operates this charge for such a small amount of excess weight??)

Thanks in advance.

Cheers for now.

Car hire companies at Girona Airport

Hi again Harry,

If you click on this link it gives you details of car hire companies based at Girona Airport

Avis and Hertz certainly let you take a hire car across borders but they charge a very high premium - this is all due to the insurance costs I'm afraid.

Hi Linda,

Gerona in Northern Spain!!!

Harry

Hi Harry,

Which Spanish Airport are you travelling from?

Linda

Can you please tell me what car hire companies have desks in the airport terminal.

I know that Hertz have one, can you advise who else has a desk there.

Some of the companies offering cars for hire give no details as to who to contact on arrival, which

Is very important especially if one is arriving late in the evening.

Also are you aware if any of the car hire companies have an excess charge for vehicles

Taken out of Spain and into France.

Thanks for your help.

I would appreciate if you can let me know if this is possible, if yes: when and what I have to pay for.

Transfers at Madrid Airpot

Hi Deb,

Well the good news is that both Continental and Easyjet operate from Terminal 1 at Madrid Airport so you won't have to change terminals. On that basis 2 hours will be enough time. I suspect you will have to re-check your bag in at the Easyjet desk, but have you spoken to Continental to see if they can check you right through?

Linda

We have a 2 hour transfer in Madrid between Continental and Easy Jet. Our Continental carry-on is larger than the Easy Jet allowance. Do we need to clear customs to check the bag at the Easy Jet check-in or can we check the bag at the gate? We are worried we will not have enough time to transfer. We have never flown Easy Jet before nor been through the Madrid airport.

Thanks!

Bringing a dog into Spain

Hi Linda

Thanks for the reply. I'ts been very helpful. I'll definately watch out for the right place to pick my dog up from at Alicante airport now!!

Regards
Rachel

Hi Rachel,

You need to check the EU pets website to check you have all the correct documentation. If this is a bit confusing then Defra is another site to check.

It varies from airport to airport where the animals are left for collection so the best thing to do is to check with the cabin crew on your outgoing flight and then again with the ground handling agents waiting outside the aeroplane when you land. But be warned your dog could still be unloaded with the rest of the luggage and put on the carousel as this has happened to quite a number to people! This also happened to me but my animals were none the worse for it.

Provided all your paperwork is in order all of your fees will have been paid at the UK end and there is nothing further to pay here.

Linda

Hi Gary

I am going to import my dog into Spain in August this year and want to check a couple of things with you please.

1. My dog will have a Pet Passort from the vets in the UK. Does she need to have any other documentation to bring her into Spain?

2. The airline that is flying her over is ThompsonFly - where do I collect her from once the plane has landed?

3. Are there any fee's that I will have to pay on entering Spain?

Many thanks

Hi Eileen,

I am afraid there are no trains or direct buses from Gibraltar to Jerez. If you walk across the border into Spain and cross the road you can get a bus from La Linea to Seville and then a connection to Jerez. Or you can get a train from Seville to Jerez.

It's a 110 km journey which takes about 1 hour 30 minutes to drive, and again you need to get a taxi from La Linea (they are waiting at the border entrance) and it will cost in the region of €160 for up to 4 passengers single fare.

Train delay from Barcelona Central

Hi John,

Afraid we are an airport guide and don't have any contacts with or in depth knowledge of Renfe, but it might be worth getting in contact with a company who are the UK representatives for Spanish Rail bookings as they might be able to help. Their website is www.spanish-rail.co.uk

Hope you manage to sort this out.

Linda

Hi there Gary, A colleague of mine is having problems confirming the reason for the delay to a train which left Barcelona Central for the Airport last Night 21/07/08 the train (C10) left Barcelona central at 20:01 due to arrive at the airport for the Easy Jet return flight to the UK, but did not get to the airport until well after 00:45. The Flight was also delayed but they refused to allow late arriving passengers onto the plane hence, The 4 hour delay meant that my colleague's daughter is now trapped with no money in Barcelona. The travel insurance company refuse to cover the claim unless they can get confirmation that the train delay officially happened. Try as I might I have been unable to get hold of anyone in the Spanish rail system that can a) understand English, and b) answer my question what was the cause of the delay. Can you perhaps shed some light on this murky subject?
