Booking a return flight with Thomas Cook from Palma

Many thanks for your assistance

Regards

Matthew Lanfranchi

Hi Matthew,

I have come across this before and it seems quite ridiculous that the UK offices cannot issue a ticket from the Spanish end. Thomas Cook do have a UK/German franchise at Palma Airport. Their details are as follows: Telephone:+34 971 789 539/Central offices telephone number: +34 971 788 255/Central offices fax number: +971 457 652

I would fax them with your request as if you leave it until you are in Majorca you might have difficulty getting a seat on a flight during the high season in July.

Linda

Dear Gary

Wonder if you can assist me. We are holidaying in July in Majorca and wish to offer our friends child the opportunity to remain with us for a further week after they go home. I am however having difficulty trying to book only a return flight with Thomas Cook into Leeds/Bradford airport. I have spent hours in a Thomas Cook shop only to be told this needs to be done from Spanish end…..my question is this, does Thomas Cook have representation in Palma airport who may be able to help with this

Advance Passenger Information (API)

Many Thanks Linda

Hi Anne,

Don't worry as last year a new security procedure called Advance Passenger Information (API) was introduced for all travellers into Spain. It is something which is already in operation in the USA and will be introduced into more EU countries this year. You can find out more at http://www.spanish-airport-guide.com/2007/06/api-advance-passenger-information.html

As you will see from this your travel operator needs the information for you to be allowed to land in Spain.

Linda

Hi Gary

We have recently booked a holiday through the Internet to Salou landing at Reus Airport, along with our confirmation the company have asked us to send to them the following info from our passports,

I am a bit uncertain as there seems to be a lot of personal and sensitive information in relation to our passport and with the focus on identity fraud just a bit concerned, can you please advise.

Information they are asking for is

Passport No
Date of Birth
Expiry date
Full name
issue office

Many Thanks

Passport validity requirements for Tenerife

Hi Ryan,

For Schengen member countries (which both Spain and UK are) you need three months left of your passport so your wife will be OK. It's the long half destinations like North America who insist on 6 months.

Hi.
We are coming to tenerife on the 1st April but my wifes paasport expires on the 19th August. Is this ok? How many months need to be left on passport and end of holiday?

Car hire at Valladolid

Afraid I don't know them. It is worth getting an online quote through Cartrawler to see if they can match up your requirements and you can also ask them if the car hire companies based at the airport have arrangements for pick ups when they are not open. Usually they have something in place to meet the Ryanair flights. Follow this link for more info http://www.spanish-airport-guide.com/valladolid-airport-car-hire.html

Linda

Hi i'm travelling to Valladolid Airport with ryanair in April arriving at around 11am. I want to hire a car, but none of the 3 rental offices are open at that time (only from 1330). A company called hispacar say that can provide a car. Do you know of this company ?

Opening times of Car hire firms on Gran Canaria

Hi Maria,

Car hire firms based at the airport have out of hours drop off and collection arrangements so you should be able to pick up and return your car on the days you arrive on and leave the island. To find out which car rental agencies are based at Gran Canaria and to get a free online quote visit http://www.spanish-airport-guide.com/gran-canaria-car-hire.html

Linda

Dear Sirs
We are booking a holiday in Gran Canaria, probably in Maspalomas and
we are considering booking a car for a week .
Our problem is that it seems as if we'll arrive in Las Palmas late in
the evening and leave early ( probably 7.00 a.m.).
Can you tell me how the car rental agencies cope with this problem as
charter flights often have difficult timetables? Do we have to get
back to the airport the
day after to pick up the car and then leave it the day before our
departure.
Thanks in advance,

Maria

Hiring a minibus at Malaga Airport

Hi Steven,

I don't know of any car hire company who rents out a minibus larger than a 9 seater (+ driver) because anything larger than this and you hit all sorts of problems with your driving licence. If you follow this link you can get more details http://www.atesa.es/flota_minibus_eng.asp

You other option is to organise a private transfer (which would be driven by someone with a coach driver's licence) - you can get a quote at http://www.shuttledirect.com/en/php/airport_shuttle_direct.php

Hi Gary,

Can you recommend a minibus hire company for a return trip for 13 people between Malaga Airport and Mijas ?

Getting from Palma to Ibiza

Hi Nicole,

The ferry terminal is only a 15 minute taxi ride from the airport but you are still cutting it very fine with an 08.30 flight arrival and I would not risk pre-booking the ferry in case you don't make it.

Your options to get to Ibiza are by flying with either Air Berlin or Air Nostrum LA Mediterraneo and you can find out details of timetables and fares at their websites, or you can catch the next ferry which I see does not leave until 20.45 so you would need to idle away some time in Palma. You don't say when you are travelling but if it is during the high season or a public holiday like Easter then I would pre-book the ferry.

Linda

Hi Gary,

We have booked a flight to Palma that arrives at the airport at 8:30am.

We were wondering what is the best way to get from Palma to Ibiza?? Would it be by Ferry or plane?

We would like to catch the 9:30am ferry from Palma to Ibiza but we are unsure whether we would make it if our plane arrives by 8:30.

Also, Should we pre-book the ferry or should we just book it when we get there?

Any assistance would be very helpful!

Collecting a cat from Alicante Airport

Thanks Linda. My Mum said that they might put him out on the luggage carousel. I think he will be a bit bemused if they do! Fingers crossed.

Hi Mel,

I brought my cats over with BA but into Malaga. The best advice I can give you is to check with the airline cabin crew on your outgoing flight and then check again with the ground handling staff who will be waiting outside when you disembark.

It is best to keep checking as the Spanish are not very consistent and often tell you to go to cargo but end up putting pets on the luggage carousel. The ground handling staff at Alicante will be able to advise you on this.

Don't be alarmed by the above though as my cats were very well treated, and although they ended up on the luggage carousel were none the worse for it!

Availability of taxis at Palma Airport

Getting a buggy at Palma Airport

Hi Brian,

There are plenty of buggies at Palma Airport. Unfortunately from our experience most of the airlines are not too interested in arranging the facility your wife requires at the time of booking.

The best thing to do is to tell the hostess when you check in and alert the cabin crew when you are on your flight as they can inform the ground handling agents for Flyglobespan at the other end to have a buggy waiting near your disembarkation gate at Palma when you land.

Linda

Hi Gary,
I have just found your very useful site, and hope that you can advise on the best way to arrange for my wife to access an electric buggy on our arrival at PMI in May.
She has recovered from a recent hip-replacement operation, but, from previous experience, feels that she cannot yet face the long walk involved from the arrivals gate to the luggage hall.
I know that these buggies are available for passengers with walking difficulties, and thought that it was the responsibility of the airline carrier to arrange access to this facility.
We are travelling with Fly Globespan however, and they have not been very co-operative in providing information on this facility.
Any help or advce you are able to provide will be much appreciated.

Cigarette duty free allowance

Time needed to clear security at Palma Airport

Hi Paul,

The speed of the departure queues depends on the time of day and year you are travelling, but they are pretty efficient at Palma and the average is about 30 minutes.

Again it depends on the number of travellers and how long the queues are as to whether Easyjet open one of their desks exclusively for speedy boarding I'm afraid.

Linda

Gary,

Any idea how long to allow to get through the departure security queues on departure from Palma ?

Also do you know if Easyjet has a separate 'speedy boarding plus' book in desk at Palma ?

Opening hours of shops at Alicante Airport

The shops at Alicante Airport open at 6.30 am so you won't have time there to buy any duty free I'm afraid.

The tourist shops will be open in Alicante on Sunday and you will almost certainly find a tobacconists or supermarket which sells cigarettes among them, but it is safer to purchase the cigarettes on Saturday if you can. Or depending on which tour operator you are travelling with you can order cigarettes on the outgoing flight for collection on your return.
