Opening hours of Girona Airport

Hi Nanak,

As this time of year Girona Airport stays open as long as flights are operating and there are no flights scheduled past midnight on the 16th so it is scheduled to close. If any flights are diverted that night then it has to stay open for them but you should plan of finding a hotel to spend a few hours in.

The Novotel is the nearest hotel just 2km from the airport. You can find out more at http://www.novotel.com/novotel/fichehotel/gb/nov/0503/fiche_hotel.shtml

Linda

Hi Gary,

Could you please advise best way to spend few hours in the night waiting at Girona airport
for catching 6.00am flight to Tenerife.
We will be arriving at Girona from Luton at about 10.00pm on 16th Feb 08

Is Girona airport open whole night ?
Are there any restaurants/bathroom facilities within the airport >
Any duty free shops etc and/or any nearby hotels etc for few hours to spend
as we will need to be back in the Airport for checking by 5.00am or so !!

Your expert advise on above will be much appreciated.

Many thanks and best wishes

Valencia Airport Opening Hours

Hi Achim,

Valencia Airport stays open as long as there are flights operating, I have checked March 1st and 2nd and there are no flights between 1.30 am and 6.00 am so the airport will close for a few hours - although Spanish airports can change their minds and stay open if they suddenly decide to do some maintenance work! If the metro starts up and the first flights out are at 6.00 am (one of which is presumably yours and you will have the check in time on your ticket) then the airport will open around 4.00 am.

Linda

hola,
I will be in Valencia for a day (March 1st to March 2nd) and my flight from Valencia will be early in the morning, so I will have to be there around 6 a.m.
Since it will be very late evening anyway, it somehow doesn't seem to make sense to get a hotel room for two or three hours. So what I would like to know: Is the airport open all night and would it be possible to sit there and wait for my flight? Or if it is not open all night, when does it open in the morning?
Thanks very much in advance

Trains from Barcelona to Murcia

You can get details and prices of trains from Barcelona to Murcia at http://horarios.renfe.es/hir/index.jsp?page=hjhir130.jsp&O=BARCE&D=61200&AF

Hi

Can I get a train from Barcelona to Murcia and how much will it cost? Do they do pre-booking in Spain or is it a case of just turn up and see how it goes?

Thanks

Getting from Lagos in Portugal to Barcelona

Hi Michelle,

The transport links between Portugal and Spain are not good and the only flights into Barcelona are from Lisbon. Basically you have the following options:

Bus from Lagos to Seville - details at http://www.faroairportguide.com/faro-to-seville.htm then a train from Seville to Barcelona (which takes a very long time with a lot of stops) - details at http://horarios.renfe.es/hir/index.jsp?page=hjhir130.jsp&O=51003&D=BARCE&AF=
2008&MF=MM&DF=DD&SF=NaN&ID=i

Or you can hire a car and drive it but it is almost 1300km and would take you around 14 hours.

Sorry not to have better news!

Linda

Hi,

My friend and I need to get from Lagos to Barcelona in early July. I was wondering what the best and cheapest way to do this is? is there a bus from Faro? or should we fly?

Domestic flights from Malaga to Mrucia or Alicante

Thank you for this information
Helena

Hi Helena,

You cannot fly direct from Malaga to Murcia or Alicante but http://www.airnostrum.es/ (part of Iberia) do go to Alicante via Madrid (which is far from ideal) . You can get some online quotes on their website to see if it is cost effective.

Your other alternative is to get a bus from Malaga or Murcia to Alicante - details at http://www.estabus.emtsam.es/ - but it's 7hour 30 minutes or 6 hour single journey respectively.

Sorry not to be the bearer of better news.

Linda

Hi
I am holidaying in Spain near Malaga, and have to pick my disabled daughter up, who will be holidaying between Alicante and Murcia. I wondered if there are cheap internal flights and would it be pos. for me to make the return trip back to Malaga in a day. Failing that I will just go up and get a hotel near her and fly her back from Murcia or Alicante to Edinburgh.
Thanks

There are very few international flights operating out of Gibraltar and as far as I am aware the only company that flys into London is Monarch who goes into Luton.

Hi Gary, I found a cheap local flight company from Gibralta to a London Airport through a blog but I can not remember the name of the company or find it on any search engines. It was not one of the usual companies, I name I have not heard of before, do you think you can shed any light,

Carparkinga t Valencia Airport

Hi Liz,

Afraid it's €10.15 per day!

Linda

Hi
Thanks for getting back to me i had already seen the website but just wanted clarification of the cost as not sure how it is worded. It says 10.15 euros for 4 days then additional of 8 euros for each day after. Just wandered if it was that price for the whole 4 days or 10.15 euros for each day.

Hope you can help

Liz

Hi Liz,

You can get details of parking at Santiago by following this link http://www.spanish-airport-guide.com/santiago.html

Car parking is straightforward there and the car park is open as long as the airport is to coincide with the arrival and departure of flights.

Linda

Hi
Can you tell me how much it would cost to leave the a car a Santiago de Compostela airport for 5 days ( 11th June at 6pm) till (15th June at 10pm), also can you tell me if the car park is open 24 hours? Is it easy to do?

The distance of the journey is 292km (a 3 hour drive) and there are no direct buses either from the airport or the centre of Alicante so a train is your best bet.

Hi gary,

Have never been to the festival in benicassim beofre but am going this year. It's looking a lot cheaper to fly to alicante and get from there to benicassim rather than flying to valencia. Do you know how much roughly it will cost to get from alicante to benicassim by train or bus etc? And does the train go directly there?

Changes to hand luggage restrictions

Hi John,

It's the airline who makes the rules and not the airport, so as long as you are travelling back with the same one you will be able to transport two bags. Check your ticket to make sure that whoever you are travelling with are going along with Manchester's new ruling as not all are automatically increasing their hand luggage allowance just because the airport can now handle more bags through security.

If you are travelling with Monarch Airlines and follow this link you will see what I mean http://www.flymonarch.com/cnt/news/index.asp?hdlId=1116

Linda

Hi, I fly from Manchester Airport, which has just changed it's policy on hand luggage
from one bag per person to two bags per person.
Could you please tell me if Aicante Airport is to do the same. Thank you.

Travel from Barcelona to San Prudencio

Hi again Fiona,

The travelling distance between San Prudencio and Barcelona is 483km (4.42 hours drive) so you really need to decide if you want to start off in Barcelona and they end your journey in San Prudencio. If you do this then you can travel back via Vitoria Airport which is 107km away, Bilbao which is 140km or Zaragoza which is 180km to save you having to make the journey all the way back to Barcelona. Northern Spain does not have good bus transport communications links but you can get a train from Barcelona to Pamplona (which offers the best train connections from Barcelona) and then hire a car from there to San Prudencio which is 107km away. You can find out more about routes and timetables all over Spain at http://www.renfe.es/horarios/english/index.html

I am afraid we are an airport guide I do not have local knowledge of events in the area you are planning to visit, so you need to visit individual websites for the larger towns to see what festivals/special events are on at the time of your visit.

Hope this is of some help.

Linda

Hi there gary,
A group of friends were thinking of visiting Northern Spain in early May. Our thoughts were that we would like to see the Guggenheim in Bilbao and then attend either the festival in honour of the Patron Saint of Alavain San Prudencio or the curling tournament in San Prudencio.

We are wondering if you could advise us which airport it would make sense to fly into for this itinerary and what transport you would recommend for us to travel from the airport to San Prudencio.

We are also open to doing something else in another location in Northern Spain if you think it would be better fun - we would like to have an event to go to though.

thanks

Transfer times at Madrid Airport

Hi Erik,

We recommend at least one hour 30 minutes transfer time between flights so if you have any delay into Madrid you are in trouble. Also you are not allowing enough time if you have hold baggage which needs to be transferred. There are buses connecting the terminals which run at regular intervals and the journey time is about 7-10 minutes.

I would try and get a later flight into Brussels.

Linda

Gary,

I would like to check connecting time with you:

Wednesday 5 March 2008

Arriving from LPA with Spanair JK5025 at 19h45 (Terminal 1 or 2 ?)

Departing to BRU with Brussels Airlines SN3730 at 20.25 (Terminal 4)

Please advise how to transfer,

Passport validity requirements

Hi Ivan,

You should be OK because the ruling is that a full British passport, valid for the duration of the visit, is required to enter mainland Spain, the Balearic and Canary Islands. No visa is required for a maximum stay of three months for those holding a passport endorsed British Citizen, British National (Overseas), British Overseas Territories Citizen, British Subject or with the front cover stating Anguila, Bermuda, Cayman Islands, Montserrat, Turks and Caicos Islands, St. Helena or Virgin Islands. Other passport holders require a visa and passport valid for three months beyond expiry date of visa.

Travelling from Brussels to Palma

Hi,

In february we will fly from Palma to Brussels but with 2 different companies:

First we fly from Palma to Barcelona with Iberia, and then we will fly from Barcelona to Brussels with SNBrussels. We have about 2 hours in Barcelona between those flights.

My question is:

- can we check in at Palma airport for the whole traject (the 2 flights)? Or do we have to check out in Barcelona and check in again?

- will our luggage in Barcelona automatically be transferred to Brussels, or do we have to check out completely there, pick up the luggage and check in again (because it is with 2 different companies)?

Thank you,

Lost luggage

Hi Evelyn,

We are inundated with messages regarding lost luggage and with all the new security regulations incidences are increasing all over the world on a monthly basis. When you booked your flight you should have received a statement from Iberia which detailed their responsibilities and this is your only clue to whether you are due any compensation. In Spain to wait one week for a reply is no time at all so I would persevere for a bit longer and chase them again in a few days.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Linda

Hi Gary.
Can you please tell me if there's a chance for getting any sort of compensation from Iberia Airlines for misplacing our luggage for 3days in Malaga Airport on 22/12/07 and Flight delays for 3hours on our way back to London on 29/12/07. We are family of 6, of which 4 are teenagers. You can imagine the expenses I had to suffer because of these events. We were not given any sort of emergency pack that should have helped us cope in Spain at that time of the year.

I sent an email to clasica@iberia.es over a week ago and again on 10/1/08 but received nothing from them.

I really appreciate it if you can advice me.
