Getting from Barcelona Airport to Las Ramblas

You need to catch a train or bus from Barcelona Airport to Barcelona Sants Railway Station and then another train from Barcelona Sants to the plaza Catalunya (plaça de Catalunya) (Take the Metropolitan line 1 in direction of Hospitalet del llobregat and get off at Plaza Catalunya - trains run every few minutes)

From the station walk along calle Bergara then to the right in carrer de Pelai (it's just a few minutes walk away).

How do I get from Barcelona airport to Calle de Pelai in the Ramblas area which is my meeting point (friends will be arriving 2 days before me) using public transportation as I cannot afford to spend to much on taxis.
